Hello All!

I'm new the site and have played a whopping 2 complete games of golf with my buddies. I used one of my buddies clubs and didn't do bad. I was able to keep the ball in play and keep the game moving.

It's time for me to invest in my own set of clubs and bag. I need your help! I've been looking around on eBay and Craigslist for a good set of clubs for a beginner.

My height is 6'4". I've been told I will need to get extensions on my clubs.

If anybody can direct me and recommend me to a great set of beginner clubs I would greatly appreciate it. I love the game and want to get more active in the sport.

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

Wrong move. Being you are just learning about golf, you don't know enough yet to pick up clubs online. Go to a golf shop and try some clubs in person.

A related matter: Are you taking lessons? Some lessons at the beginning gets you  started in the right direction. You could go with individual lessons right away, or start off with a golf clinic. At a clinic, beginners get together 1-2 nights a week and learn together.

Some people rely on their lesson pro to help them with clubs. After you narrow it down to a set or two you like, get a static fitting: The club fitter will check the length of the shafts, and let you hit a few shots to determine what lie angle you need (at 6-foot-4, you might need adjustments from normal).

Ask your friends to recommend a good shop and golf pro.

Good luck and welcome to the game.

Focus, connect and follow through!

If you are that tall, you should get at least a static fitting (a dynamic fitting would be better) at a golf store to let your proper lie angles and length. At that height, not getting fit could really throw off your game, and make it harder to learn.

Agreed - Absolutely get fit first.  You may need upright lie angles, at the very least.   Dont buy anything until you know this.   I think Ping still has an explaination of their fitting system on their website, for starters.
