Just wondering who here has played these clubs and with what level of success they had. I've played blades previously (695's), but ultimately got rid of them because the shafts were to stiff (7.0). I'm currently playing x20 tours and have no real legit complaints but  i had the oppurtunity to get the pings at a great price so i gave it a go? Any feed back on these clubs would be great! Thanks

My son has played the S-59's since they came out approx. 6 years ago.  He just loves them.  He likes a more  "traditional" look - (I know kind of an oxy moron with Ping), as he did not like any of the offerings from Callaway, etc when we purchased these.  They definitely are more of a players club vs. the game improvement clubs on the market today.  I see in your signature that you had the CG golds.  I had these, and liked them a lot.  The Pings will definitely feel different than the CG Golds.  If you tried the CG reds when they came out, these will be closer to the Pings.  If you got a good deal, and like the look of the Pings I think you should be happy with them.

Here's a summary of the S series Ping irons (based on Maltby's 6-category MPF system)

Model Year MPF Category
S59 2005 (?) 660 Game Improv
S58 2007 778 Super GI
S57 2009 612 GI
S56 2011 562 GI

The S59 was an upper-level Game Improvement club; S series model with highest MPF was S58. Ralph Maltby noted S58 had increased playability for a smaller blade from a lower Vertical Center of Gravity.

I swapped X20 irons for X20 Tour irons at Christmas (found set shafted in PX 5.0 vs. standard 6.0). The X20 Tours are Super GI, and feedback is superb - you know on impact if it's a poor, OK, or great shot.

X20 Tours come in at Super GI, somewhere in the 700s for MPF. Not sure if slightly higher MPF would make X20 Tour noticeably "easier" than S59; probably whichever one feels best to you is keeper.

I recently bought my Ping S59 set and I play 4-PW and absolutely love them! Previously I hit the Ping eye 2 irons and although I did like those, I feel that my distance and playability have improved extremely with these clubs. I got my set for 275 slightly used and I feel I can't beat a deal like that.

    • Day 29, 1/29.  I actually allocated some decent time to practice today.  It was "only" 20 minutes, but I don't like having even small streaks of "just" five minutes.  In any case, I spent a good 20 minutes, hitting 18 total balls (I counted afterward, the count wasn't the goal), indoors, off a mat, into a net, focused on length of the backswing.
    • Day 65: did a stack session. Worked on slow practice swings during rest breaks, hands down and then turn.
    • Day 40 - 2026-01-29 Slow reps on mat and net focused on grip and backswing.
    • Originally, I had Callaway X-18s. I was in an after work league, and was hitting terrible with them. My partner, a more seasoned retired golfer, said, "were you fitted for those?". I told him where I bought them, but said no, I wasn't fitted. He said, "they should have fitted you"..."most clubs are designed for taller men"..."you can go get fitted, but I suggest you take a Ping Dot measurement, easier and cheaper, and get a set off of eBay and try them out". So, I did that. First, I tried my wife's Lady clubs on a Par 3 and was shocked at the score. I measured. Orange Dot. Score dropped 10 strokes the following week (43 on 9 holes). I was excited. I traded the Callaway X-18s for 2 sets of clubs: Harvey Penick Take Dead Aim, and Titleist CB690s. I cut the Titleist CB690s down half an inch and regripped them. Started playing with them, and wow, I started hitting better than the Ping Eye 2s (more distance, same or better accuracy). I didn't hit well with the Harvey Penicks, so they have sat in a box. I have considered pulling them back out. Finally, I decided to try Blades. Felt like this was the year because I might be aging out of them. I bought a used set of Par Ace Tour Blades for $50 off FB Marketplace. There is a 1 iron all the way down to Sand Wedge. They seem heavy (maybe it just seems heavier due to the 2 extra clubs, the 1 & 2). I took the blades in, and had them bent (2 degree flatter, or lower, per club). This makes them match the Ping Orange Dot lie angles. Played with the blades last Summer and Fall. They're accurate! If you can hit consistently in middle of club, which I do, they do quite well. But they seem to cost me a lot of distance - at least 10 yards per club. I was thinking of completing a full 2026 with these blades, but after going to Top Golf for a virtual round, I noticed I was getting smoked on the distance, and am now re-thinking which clubs, of the ones I have, would be best to play with. So now, I am wondering...if you had these sets to choose from, which set would YOU choose? - Ping Eye 2 - Titleist CB690 - Blades (Par Ace Tour Blades) - Harvey Penick Take Dead Aim .... and yes, at some point, I will probably get more current and get a nicer newer set. But for now, this is what I have to choose from.
    • Day 169 1-29 Main focus was really arching wrist in downswing. It's starting to get better for sure. Did lots of rehearsals used mirror and recorded.
