It really does not matter which way I take the club back it seems because one of my chronic problems is the fact that I run out of room of the downswing and come in WAY too inside causing me to hit a wide variety of bad shots and lead to real inconsistency. I attributed this to fact that I seem to have a Sergio Garcia downcock which leads to great lag no doubt but now it gets me into the habit of dropping the hands way too much and I run out of real estate so to speak. I would love to be able to keep the downcock but I have no idea whether I am coming back onplane or not and have no real feel for where the slot is.

Is there any good drills to cure this because I don't like the feeling of coming over the top either but I have been told all my life to come from the inside but it appears I have really taken this to an extreme. Btw this forum is really great since I discovered it a couple of days ago.

Without a video, I can only guess that you are using some sort of arm swing.

Golf clubs should be swung with your body and hands, not arms and hands.  Your arms should be passive except for your forearms working your hands.

You might want to do a web search for body powered professional golf swing.

With a body powered swing and maintaining extension, your hands cannot do any independent dropping at the start of the downswing, because your body movements will be pulling your arms, hands, and club down and through impact.

You probably would describe my swing pretty well from that description, the only other thing is I have practiced half shots just to see if I can get good contact and I still have problems getting good contact even with a punch swing which is mostly arms and hands right?

whatever you do, don't stop rotating those hips!

at first it's going to feel like you're going to push the ball out to right field, but good news, you won't. let your hips pull your shoulder and your shoulder pull your arms. it's really that simple.

Any golf swing that requires lead arm extension should be body and hands.
