I am going to a fitting session with a  Henry-Griffitts  certified fitter Saturday.  I think it will be an interesting experience.  I have to pay for the fitting which I like because it relieves me of the obligation of buying clubs.  He carries other brands but I wanted the try someone I feel is very knowledgeable.

Anyone have any experience with Henry-Griffitts certified fitter or someone similar?

Thanks

Bill

I went and had a great experience with a certified Henry-Griffitts fitter.  The guy was a total pro and had many brands available.

He had Callaway, Taylormade, Mizuno, custom putter brands I have not heard of.  It was an indoor fitting.  He had a Vector Launch monitor.  A few measurements and some hitting off the lie board and I found I was 4 degrees upright.  Upright is what I expected, I see deep toe divots frequently.  4 degrees is a lot.  Some manufacturers do not make 4 up clubs.  We tried steel and graphite shafts.  The graphite shafts were the same flex we decided was best in steel, but lighter.  I did not like the lighter shaft.

I am coming from Stock Callaway X-18's that I have been playing for around 6 years.

I decided on a Henry Griffitts OS-1 irons.

Here is their website, I can not link directly to the OS-1 page.

They are good looking and different look for sure. Very thin topline.  I got 3 - gap wedge.  The gap wedge was a 51 degree Custom Grind Series.  It has "sizzle milled grooves".  For what it is worth I was getting more backspin then on my new this season 52 degree Vokey spin milled wedge.  Part of the fitting process is free adjustments for 100 days.  I tried some drivers but I was not hitting driver well that day so I did not feel the urge to change anything.  Depending on how the clubs go I may try and get fitted for a driver from him.

A few interesting things about Henry-Griffitts.

All the shafts in a set are the same flex.  In a normal set the flex gets stiffer as the club becomes shorter.

They also "Pure" the shaft using the SST pure shaft alignment process.

It optimizes the flex of every shaft for consistency. Is that marketing BS, I am not sure.

Bottom line, I paid a premium for the clubs.  It took and hour and a half and no stone was left unturned.  Are Henry Griffitts clubs for the average guy, I don't think so.  I am blessed with the financial resources to do this and it has no effect on my finances. I also tend to be anal and this process is right up my alley.  I get the clubs in around 10 days and we will see how it goes.  I could have gone to the same guy and bought Callaways, Mizunos or Taylormade.  That may be something to look at.  There are not a lot of Henry-Griffitts fitters, it might be considered a level of qualification.

In an ironic turn I played 18 on fathers day with my whole family.  That is usually a huge distraction but I shot my best score ever with my old sticks.  There were some deep toe/fat shots that effected my score.  I don't expect miracles from the clubs but I am hoping for more consistency.

Now the long wait.

I love my henry griffitts driver. I got fitted about 6 months ago and I knocked off about 3 strokes from my game. I am thinking about going back to get fitted for irons as well. Just need to save up a little.

I was thinking about getting fitted for a driver.  What was your prior driver and what improved?

The sticks came in I had them drop shipped.  I was not sure what to expect so I grabbed a few and hit the range.  After a dozen balls I swapped them in to my bag.  It was an obvious improvement.  I always tried not to take a divot, I did not get good consistent results with a divot.  They were always toe deep, if I was a little fat the ball went right.  Now the divots are rectangular and equal depth across the width.  Sounds minor but makes a huge difference. If I am a little fat it is short but it still goes in the right direction.

Happened to be league night.  I went and played a pre-league 9 and shot a 44 and 42 in my league for a 86.  That is a very good score for me.  Was it the clubs?  To a degree.  I had no blowup holes, off the tee and around the green I was good but I hit a lot of greens.  I can say I had no fat/toe deep shots so the clubs did not hurt me.

A little early to say but my conclusion right now would be that I hurt myself by playing with off the rack clubs for all this time.  I happen to be off the standard by quite a bit so fitting will likely help me more then most.  If I had it to do over again I would go to a good fitter and pay to get fit.  If I found I was off the standard and the fitter thought it would be helpful I would get new clubs or if possible have my clubs bent to the correct specs.  If I was standard I would walk away with the knowledge that I was good and playing the right equipment, money well spent.  FYI the guy I went to charged $90 for an iron fitting.

I will recommend finding a Henry-Griffitts fitter.  Henry-Griffitts originated the lie board and interchangeable head clubs.  They have more options then the rest.  I believe a Henry-Griffitts fitter will be likely to be more knowledgeable then most.  My guy did sell other brands so you don't have to get Henry-Griffitts sticks but the option is there.  At this point I do recommend The OS-1 irons.

They feel great have a very very thin top line and are forgiving.

Part of the purchase is having the fit checked and adjusted for 100 days.  I am probably going to go back and buy a Praxis driver from the same guy during the checkup.  I think driver is all about the shaft and he will be better suited to help me find the right one.

I'll report back over time to see if my early conclusions hold.

I actually think those are pretty damn good looking heads!  I am off the OEM band wagon and slowly replacing my bag with custom hand built sticks.  I built my irons and one hybrid so far, and am about to assemble a driver when the head arrives tomorrow.  My game and scores have improved, and I ended up giving my new Callaway X-22's to my brother because I play my Maltby's so much better!  And component built clubs are much cheaper, so that's a bonus too!

Congrats!  I just looked at the OS-1 page and saw "Adjustable lie angles from 7° flat to 6° upright".  Wow, that a ton of adjustment!!  They have some pretty sweet looking heads.

Thanks I like the unique look  When I get a chance I'll take a photo of the top view, the topline is very thin.

In follow up I have played several rounds with the irons and have had good success.  I don't seem to hit the long irons (3-4) as well as my X-18's.  I plan on trying some Adams Hybrids.

I am also going to setup a fitting test with the pro who fit the clubs, it is part of the purchase.  I may have them decrease the loft.  I seem to hit these pretty high and have lost a little distance.

Finally when there I want to try out the Praxis Driver and might buy one if we can find a shaft that gives me good benefits.
