I'm learning about the importance of maintaining proper plane.

I've been told/read that the t club should maintain the proper plane from start to finish.

Looking at slow motion videos on youtube of tiger and other pros, I see that as they get to the top of the swing,

their club is more vertical and at impact they are back on the exact same plane.

(I put a line at address of the plane)

So does this mean that it is not imperative that you have the proper plane at the top of swing but only on the downswing?

This all started when I noticed that at the top my swing, my club was always more vertical than the plane.

Any thoughts?

Well I think most important is the position at the start of the takeaway where the club is parallell to the ground. If you're looking at it from DTL, you want the club to be on plane there, not inside or outside the hands. Then of course, you pretty much want to hit this spot on the downswing as well. This photo shows what I mean. It's what I've been working on lately anyway. may_stenson02_400x600.jpg .

Thanks for the reply.

That is what I also am doing.

I figure I'll be in line there on the takeaway and the downswing and not worry about the plane at the top.

Obviously the ball is only affected by where the club in and how it is moving at impact, but where the club is at other points in your swing has a huge effect on your position at impact.
