Late wrist hinge

I noticed that I have a very late hinge in my wrist.

I am not over-swinging and I dont hit the ball far but I am hitting it strait and a respectable distance.

Should I try and hinge my wrist earlier in my take away and if so any good ways to practice this?

Or leave it alone and practice my putting!

It could affect a few things (things you'd see more from down the line - namely where you feel the club as "on plane" versus where it really is), but if it's not causing too many issues, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hinging late (as Erik mentioned) could result in a few things not evident from a face-on view.  In my case, hinging late also caused me to allow my hands to come out of plane while laying the club off inside... watch out here.  Hinging your wrists earlier could likely help set the club on plane and keep your hands lower and closer to you body.

Of immediate concern... what kind of range is that?  That looks like come real cabbage to be hitting out of!

I had this problem for a while and the pro that I talked to told me to set a second ball behind the one you're going to hit, about 8 inches to a foot behind. Take a slow back swing and hinge when the club hits the second ball. I'm not saying it's the perfect way to do it or anything, but it worked for me and I still go back to it when my irons are getting funky.

At the same time, look at someone like Steve Stricker who doesn't really hinge his wrists at all. He still manages to do okay :)

I'm not going to worry to much about it yet but I will try to hinge early once and a while and see what happens.

I checked out how late Steve Stricker hinges his wrist and found it very intresting.

Once I settle into my swing it may help get some extra power and control to hinge a little earlier and keep my right elbow in.

Depends on what kind of swing you have. Some swing schemes produce delayed wrist cock, others produce early wrist cock.

According to McLean, throwers (Rickie Fowler and Tom Watson) have a delayed wrist cock, while draggers (Luke Donald and Nick Faldo) have an early wrist cock. Needless to say, both throwers and draggers win golf tournaments.

As Erik hinted, if you're hitting the ball OK, don't worry about it.
