My friend recently got married, and I'd like to buy him a new driver. He is a total beginner, and his driver is absolutely terrible. What do you guys suggest for a 6'3 beginner? His swing is very slow but I think it will get faster as he learns the game. I'd like to get him something nice without spending a ridiculous amount of money. Any help would be appreciated..

As a 6'4" beginner with a slow swing speed, I highly recommend regular flex, high-lofted (12*-13.5*) drivers from Ping or Callaway.  I recently added a Callaway Diablo Edge HT (13*) that I bought on used on ebay for about $80 and it was in mint condition.  New are going for about $150.  The extra loft simplifies things and makes it easier to get a nice (albeit) higher trajectory.

Driver:  Callaway Diablo Octane iMix 11.5*
Fairway: Cobra Baffler Rail F 3W & 7W
Irons:  Wilson Ci
Wedges:  Acer XB (52* & 56*)
Putter:  Cleveland Classic #10 with Winn Jumbo Pistol Grip

Thanks for the responses! Anybody else think the Nickent driver is any good? $50 is a ridiculously good price.  Thanks again!

There's 53 reviews on Rock Bottom Golf that could provide some feedback.  It's a 4.5 average after those 53 reviews, but I didn't go through and read the reasoning for all of those high scores so I think that'd be a good place to start.
