I've been playing ALOT of golf this year & have been using the traditional pinky overlap grip, but the fingers on my right hand really bother me - it's like the entire force of the downswing is focused on those 3 right hand fingers.      I've tried the baseball bat grip, and my hand doesn't hurt nearly as much.      I spoke to the club pro about it & the baseball bat grip is a preference, not a requirement (like other more fundamental things).

Only problem is I can't keep my thumb of my right hand in line with my left hand thumb, its so much more comfortable for it to curl over (like a baseball bat grip).       Just curious if this grip is acceptable or not ?

Actually after working with the pro I've been seeing for lessons, I switched to the interlock grip (right pinky wrapped inside of the left pointer/middle finger).  I have had the exact same problems as you after switching from 2 years of the baseball grip.  The fingers on my right hand are constantly sore.  I'm going to discuss this with my pro tomorrow when I take my next lesson and see what he thinks about it.  He doesn't like the baseball grip because he called it a weak grip and allows for easier flipping of the wrists, which it was revealed to me on high speed video that i was definitely doing.

I have used the baseball grip my whole life so I don't know any different. People say that I will get too "wristy", but I don't see it. I have a great swing and, if it wasn't for my head, should be a scratch golfer.

Everything is all about comfort and practice! If it doesn't feel good, don't do it!

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated

I was advised to use the interlock grip when I started golfing last year as well.  After all, this must be the "best" grip because Tiger Woods uses it.  But alas, my fingers got sore same as yours.  I switched to an overlap grip and haven't had a problem since.  If you swing the club well and comfortably with a baseball grip, then use it.

(BTW - It may also be a sign of excessive grip pressure which is something I struggle to control.)

I have started using the baseball grip about a month ago, feels much more comfortable for me.

It was definitely wasn't put to me like that, actually my coach said he prefers the overlap grip but it just feels terrible to me.  I'm not sure how to swing and make it feel "right" to me like the interlock does.  Most certainly was not a tiger woods "best" thing tho for sure.

    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
