Senior Tour Qualifier in 24 Years???

Just looking for some opinions...I'm in the military(hence the username), I have a family for 4, I'm almost 26, have been golfing 3 or 4 times a month with a Hdcp of about 24 with no lessons. Do you guys think a goal of making the senior tour at 50 is attainable? Thanks for the replies.

It's possible but it's definitely going to take a LOT of practice and a lot of time away from your family. It's going to be very difficult finding enough time to practice while being in the military and having a family. With that being said, it is possible and if it's your dream then go for it!

Yes it is possible in the same way that one of your children could make it to the NBA or NFL.  I hope you realize that those odds are incredibly small and you aren't counting on something like that for their future. Without knowing anything about you or your children I would say your kids have a better chance of being in the NBA or NFL in 24 years.

Think about all the people that have been playing for years and they will still likely be good in 24 years. Your competition in your age group will be people like Rory Mcilroy, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer...(not sure if you watch professional golf based on your question, I probably should have just mentioned Tiger Woods).  You also have a job that you are performing and you have 4 kids to support so you can't practice like all of the previously mentioned PGA players.

That being said there are a few Senior PGA players that weren't on some professional tour before turning 50 but I would assume they were somehow involved in the golf industry (think teaching professionals) or were wealthy to the point where they stopped working in their 40's and played tons of golf.

All that being said I hope you didn't play sports as a kid only because you wanted to be a professional athlete.  I hope you played because you had fun, just like I hope you have fun playing golf.  If you become skilled enough to play as a professional congrats.

No.

The Champions Tour Q school finals admit only 5 guys each year with full playing rights.

Even if at the moment, you were ranked in the top 10 amateurs in the world, your chances would be very slim. Virtually nil.

Concentrate on enjoying the game and becoming the best player you can be.

look at it a different way.  Let's say by some miracle you had the game at 50 to play out there---why would the senior tour want some unknown 50 year old taking up a spot that could go to an ex tour player?  The senior tour is more about fans seeing certain players than quality of golf.

That's a long time, and while it's unlikely, it's certainly not impossible.
