I'll take the double eagle any day.  It's a much more difficult accomplishment.  And that isn't just because I already have 2 aces - even if I had none I'd still take the 2 on a par 5.

an ace or hole in one on a par 3 is 2 under par.

an albatross on a par 4 or 5 is 3 under par and the hardest score to get in the game of golf (besides a hole in one on a par 5 which I have never heard of)

so tell me again why anybody in their right mind would rather have an ace over an albatross?

how many people in the US get a hole in one on any given day.  Maybe 100?  how about an albatross,  maybe 1 or less than that?  Look at the PGA stats on both of them.

To tell you again, it's because no one would care if I got an albatross.  If I got an ace during a round, I could go home and post on Facebook "got a hole in one today!" and a bunch of people would comment and congratulate me.  If I got an albatross, I could post "got an albatross today!" and, no one, literally no one would know what on earth I'm talking about.  I could then say it's a double eagle, 3 under par on a par 5.  They still wouldn't really care.  That's why I'd prefer an ace.  It has a lot more recognition and it would be a lot more fun to brag about.

This. I want to mark a one down. When I first saw this thread I was ready to say HIO no question, but the comments definitely had me changing my opinion. But no, I want the uno.

Wondering...Do you have to buy your foursome a drink if you double-eagle/albatross??

Yeah I guess you are right, it's all about what others think.

I'd take the hole in one. I'm guessing that most albatross' you can't really see the ball go in the cup. But on a 160 yard par 3, you'd really get the see the ball just roll in the cup. It's magic.

How delightfully passive-aggressive of you.  You could just say "I don't really see it that way."  It's okay that you don't respect my opinion.  I will still respect yours.  I certainly see you're point, but I feel differently about it.

It would kinda depend on how my round was going.  If it was a great round,  double eagle please!  If it was a bad round, the hole in one just so i could say i had a hole in one.

They say a double eagle is a 6 million to 1 chance of getting

Between 1983 to 2003, there were 631 aces on the PGA Tour but just 56 double-eagles - and never more than six albatrosses in one year

hole-in-one odds are in the neighborhood of 13,000-to-1 for the average golfer

Approximately 40,000 aces a year are made in the United States, compared to just a couple hundred double-eagles.
