wouldnt it be great if every player got the Tiger treatment?

I just watched NBC praise his 7 wins in a row. While be-littleing players like Fred Funk, Sergio Garcia, and the great Byron Nelson to make his streak look better. Personally this makes me want to vomit, as if we need re-assurance that what he's done is a great feet. You need to down-play Byron Nelson and players like Fred Funk by comparing Fred's 7 wins which took him 500 and some starts to get. Jesus, Stenson is the 1st Sweed to win a tournament like this and all the announcers can talk about is Tiger Wood's streak. Geoff Ogilvy wins his match in the 2nd round, in his post-round interview the announcer asks him what do you think of Tiger Wood's win streak.. you could see Ogilvy's face curl up, like gimme a break.

I doubt Tiger would allow this, for two reasons: 1. He didn't consider himself to be on the streak, ever since losing at HSBC, plus in China and Japan. He allows the 7 wins record to stand because he's not going to purposefully lose a round just to fix the record. 2. He has too much respect for Byron Nelson, and knows that Byron won a match-play event as one of the 11 (PGA Championship 1945).

I believe the originator of the thread was being facetious regarding chaing the format to make a point, that Tiger is given way too much attention and it is annoying.

But, the reality is, the networks think that is what people want to see, and the ratings are higher when Tiger is playing.

And, once he was eliminated, and there was nobody else out there who was compelling to the US viewer, they had to do something. Basically, filler.

Match play is a nightmare for the networks, and I will admit I don't watch it once the big names are knocked out. Great view from Wednesday-Friday, but usually Friday it gets boring.

This reminds me of a Wizard of Id strip I liked so much, I saved it. Here's the way it goes:

Well, he is what sells the commercials, and fills the TOUR coffers with all that TV money. Shindig is right about Tiger's personal views. He's stated several times that he considered the streak to be over. It's the "on-air talent" that won't let it go.

I agree, though, that I'd like some evidence that there's more than one guy in the tournament. If you're not on the leaderboard, or you're not playing with Tiger, you might as well be invisible. I'd like to tell the networks that, believe it or not, some of the not-in-the-top-ten players have fans, too.

Match play is a nightmare for the sponsors and the TV networks, but I love to watch it. I play in match play tournaments, and I find the strategy just fascinating!
