Erik;I agree that Titliest makes great clubs but they do not advertise them on TV anywhere near as much as the ball.Ernie will have to play Callaway's ball no doubt and he will do just fine with it.I think it is the wedges he will find a BIG difference with from the Volkey.

Where has this rumour come from? Does anyone know?

I'd be surprised if Ernie switched in the middle of a season, just before the Masters, if this is in fact true. Still, it never did Phil any harm.

Well I know that when Phil wanted to re-negotiate his contract with Titleist, he did it after he won his first major. He wanted more money. Titleist did not want to pay. The thing is, I don't recall Phil offering to give back money to Titleist when he was in his slump.

I do wish Titleist would sign some more marquee players but at the same time, I am glad they do not let themselves be held hostage to others demands. They let their product do the talking.

Maybe Acushnet pays its club designers (especially Scotty Cameron) better than it pays its players. Scotty never seems to go into a slump.

Have you tried the new Callaway X-tour "Mack Daddy" wedges? The Volkey wedges are nice but I retired mine for the callaways. The callaways are forged and have a nice soft feel, you should try them if you haven't already.

It just goes to show you that with the professionals it's all about "show me the money".... Ernie could hit it 275 straight down the pipe with a 100 yr old hickory shafted persimmon and a gutta percha ball, so it's not about the new equipment making any kind of miraculous difference for him, but it is about the CASH !!

He was actually struggling quite mightely with his driving accuracy. The new Callaway drivers are the best and straightest out right now and i believe thats why he switched. He is also using the HX tour ball, but He's still using titleist irons we'll see how much the callaway driver/ball straightens out his drives.. which he is using in the ohnnie Walker this week. With Callaway coming to the fore front of equipment were going to see a much stronger Callaway team in the future.

Black Black,

I am coming to San Diego for a work convention in two weeks. Where do you think I should play? I play to a 8 handicap and would like to play a course that is fun with some nice views. Dont give a rats ass about money, I just want to enjoy it. Torrey Pines I hear is overated and I think La Costa is too far for where I am going to be? I appreciate your help.
Thanks

The best way to explain your troubles is to change your equipment. Still using his Titleist Irons.

A bad workman always blames his tools!

Seriously though, it's going to take him a while to play with a set of Callaway's he's comfortable with; especially as he's used to playing blades! It's going to take him time just to adjust to shaping his shots with cavities again!

This was about money. Callaway is willing to pay Els big money, just like they were/are willing to pay Mickelson big money. The reason being, they make their money on clubs, and are trying to gain a larger market share in the ball industry.

The best way to gain a larger market share in the ball market is to get the marquee players, basically copy what Nike did in basketball and every other sport, now golf to an extent. Does Nike make soccer shoes comparable to Adidas? Of course not, but Brazil is wearing their stuff.

Bottom line, Callaway is not made with Mickelson at all, and they were only too happy to sign Els.

Whomever compared Titleist to the Bears has something because that is their SOP, right now.

They do not pay DL III that much, and he is falling off, and they are content to run with Adam Scott right now, from a club perspective, in terms of marquee players.

But, Titleist knows their money comes from balls, and if they weren't going to offer Mickelson Callaway money, they certainly were not going to do anything differently with Els.
