Should I feel bad that when I roll into one of these golf stores just to hit some of their clubs even though I have no intentions of buying right then and there?

Having worked in golf retail for awhile, we saw this all the time.

If you are genuinely shopping around and in the market for a new club, you are certainly under no obligation to buy. Everyone understands that. It would be nice if you were at least open to the possibility of buying from that store eventually or that you were a regular customer for other items.

On the other hand, if no one there knows your name, but your face is instantly familiar because you drop by to hit balls for 45 minutes every time it rains, then you've already been given a name by the salesmen. First name: "A--" Second name: "Hole".

I definitely don't want to be known as Mr. Hole! This sounds to me the least expensive way to try out different clubs. I have tried the site online that lets you rent them for 5 days or so but there selection is limited at times.

Eh. I bought my driver, 3W, and 4H from Roger Dunn used. They have a 90 day 100% money back (as store credit) guarantee. When the pro from whom I take lessons pointed out to me that I shouldn't be using stiff-shafted clubs, and the loft was too low on the driver, so I returned them, tried some others, and got those. I think I traded in my driver and 3W each twice... but I now have ones I like. And I buy plenty of gloves from this location, as well as my shag bag, putter, and I'll probably buy a hat at some point.

Don't think that I can get anyone or myself in trouble by posting this but the again I didn't read ALL the rules and regulations.

I really dont like when people do this, there wasting my time and taking me away from a customer that might buy something.. I love helping people even if they tell me right away that there not going to buy anything. I still take the time to answer there questions and demo clubs. I just rather they be upfront with me..

I hit demo clubs once in a while and always tell the guy I'm not buying that day and I like to hit the same club a few different days to make sure I like or dislike the club then we can talk price. I don't always buy a club or clubs.
After hitting a few different clubs I find They're no better than what I already have.

    • 12 July 25 - Got invited to a Sat morning round with some friends.  Was a decent round - sort of a pre-tournament round for the 1st of Aug.  Best play of the day - lost ball off the tee on 7.  Took the drop, hit 3rd onto the green, missed the par putt by 3 inches short - middle of cup.  Was a good bogie recovery.  Learned a valuable lesson - the wedge is your friend, the collars on the greens are just long enough that they kill the putter (unless you hammer it).  Back to more of those nice chip and roll drills. &nbsp
    • Day 357: played 27 holes. +6 total - pretty pleased. Only negative was missing the hole 3 times from within 4 feet…
    • Day 1: 7/12/25 exactly 60 minutes of chipping practice. Unlikely to be able to practice very much but sure had a blast today!
    • Didn't score better, but made better swings on the course today. I found a bit of success on range pre-round, just hitting like what felt like 60-70% shots. It was more right elbow and right wrist angles in the downswing. Driver took a bit to work out the giant toe push draws I was hitting.
    • Played in the first round of Shawnee Hills  course tournament. went 42+46. Just lost energy on the back nine.  Lots of pars and way too many big scores. Course has a lot of areas to lose a golf ball. This is the adjusted score.  I had to return to the tee twice. The first the guy I played with didn’t tell me my ball bounced into the trees behind the green. 😡 the 2nd one I hit a decent draw over the corner of a slight dog leg left. I didn’t know 15-20 yards from the fairways was nasty weeds. I also 4 putted and 3 putted a few times. I flubbed like two chips. Too long of backswing.  I was happy with my ball striking. Probably B-. Found a bit of something on the range before the round. I’m starting to actually feel my right arm position better with what I am working on. I striped some irons today.
