My current driver is a 200 series taylormade driver that I bought like 7+ years ago, its junk and I took no time in purchasing it I just picked a driver, give me a break I was new to the game lol. Ok anyway I decided 2 weeks ago that I would work some extra hours and purchase a good driver and take time in picking one. So I had planned to go to GolfGalaxy on Wednesday to test hit some and make my decision. For the last 2 weeks I have only been using my 4 iron of the tee.

Now with my old driver I would have a wicked slice that if you didnt hit it exactly square and in the middle of the club the ball would be gone. I would go through like 10 balls in a 18 hole course. Well yesturday my son and I were playing at our local club and I decided to try out his driver for the hell of it. I made sure to keep my head down instead of moving it up last second and hit it straight as a arrow.

So today against my wifes best wishes I played again because wanted to see how I would do with my driver. Well I got to my local club and noticed they had some R11s you could play with if you wished. I though well I dont like the white on the top but what the hell. 1st of all the white dosent bother me as much as I thought it would and 2nd of all I think I love this club. On the 1st tee I topped the ball but I think thats just because I wasnt used to the driver length, on the 2nd tee which is the hardest tee shot on the course I smashed it. I hit the longest drive I have ever hit on that tee and it went straight as a arrow. On the 3rd tee I hit it to the woods on the left twice. It went straight but I guess I was just hitting the ball late or just aiming wrong but on the third shot it again went far as hell and straight.

towards the end of the round I started to slice it again but its nothing like a slice on my old club and keep in mind this club was not designed for me its a test one. I mean the slices I do hit are just mild slices now instead of bye ball I will never see you again ones. I was really pushing towards the victory red driver but honestly after today im so not sure. Im still going Wednesday to hit clubs for a couple hours but after today with the R11 im really concidering it. I still have some issues with my swing and I know I need a lesson on that, really driving is my main issues I hit my irons pretty good.

There are a LOT of good drivers out there, many that would fit the bill perfectly for you, and very likely much less expensive than the R11. That's not to say you shouldn't get the R11, but rather to keep your options open. Go to a good golf store where you can hit them with a launch monitor. Have someone there help you narrow choices based on your launch angle, spin and clubhead speed. It will be very obvious what loft and shaft is right for you, and a fitted club is worth everything. I guess what I'm saying is, if you want the sexy new thing go for it, but if you really want to improve your game, go get fitted. Those options aren't mutually exclusive by the way: with the myriad shafts available for the R11, along with the adjustments, you could have it zeroed to your swing and then your "might love this club" would be a "damn, I love this club!!!!!!" :)

Yea I'm For sure Hanna hit a ton of clubs on wednesday. As long as it's as forgiving as r11 I will buy cheaper one, I don't mind spending the money though. I worked the extra hours for this reason alone.

I think the R11 is best in the hands of players who hit driver well and don't slice -- IOW, it's not as forgiving as others.

You might try the Burner Superfast 2.0, Ping K15, or Cally Diablo Octane for more forgiving options, or even a Razr Hawk in a draw option.

Definitely look at other drivers. The Razr Hawk is miles long and has been well reviewed since it came out. Ping's K15 is probably one of the easiest to hit high and straight. But the most important thing is to get fit and make sure the right shaft is in there for you.

Well, you changed it for your benefit.

You omitted the important point - that the R11 is not as forgiving as others...

    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
    • Day 56 (4 May 26) - Worked on some ball-then-ground drills - going from P3 thru impact - with a slowed tempo, working to keep all parts in sync.
