I went to golfsmith about 3 months ago and spent about 2 hours with their "expert" hitting different irons.  I ended up purchasing taylor made 2.0s which helped bring my game into the mid to high 90s from the 106 range.  I was really excited about them compared to my old set but a buddy i play with who's a 6 handicap kept telling me that they sold me the wrong set because of my height.  I took the set to 2 other shops and they confirmed that I was sold a standard set when I'm 6'4" which is way off.  They both said that the shaft should be 3/4 inches longer and the lie needs to be 3 degrees upright.  I went back and spoke with a manager and basically told him that I am not an expert and that is why I went there figuring with the price that I'm paying for that set and with the time I spent with the guy that they should've sold me the right set.  He ended up measuring me and had me hit the hard plastic plate with a ping that was 3 degrees upright and 1/2 inch longer and I was hitting that perfectly in the middle of the white tape that they put on the bottom.  All the balls were going straight with a nice tragectory.  He actually said he would cover the cost of extending them,  changing the degrees and putting oversized grips on them.  I am going to check them on the plate to make sure that I am hitting in the middle when i get them because I hear that it's difficult to bend the lie more the 1.5 degrees or 2 and being a cast iron, that they may break by bending them but that's on them if they do.  I am getting them back this thursday and looking forward to hitting them.  This has caused me not to discontinue making a future purchase there.  Hopefully with the right fitted clubs and more practice I can start to get back into the 80s.

He's extending the shafts, or he's putting new shafts in? Because there's a difference, and extended shafts play different from "over standard" shafts. Is he putting in generic oversized grips, or is he putting on grips that feel good to you too, such as the oversized (or built up) version of the ones you chose when you bought the set? Seems to me the right thing for him to do would've been to offer you the trade-in: return the clubs you were misled into, and he orders from TaylorMade the clubs you want in the right specs.

A tweak is one thing. You need a full remake on irons - see if they'll buy Shindig's plan.

Yes I think that would've been the right thing to do from the beginning.  I'll see how they hit and they may need to do that anyways because I hear bending cast irons more than 2 degrees is tough, so they may break a couple of them and need to do so.  I am picking them up tomorrow and will hit them on what ever the plastic thing is to show that I am hitting it flush in the center.  If that doesn't work, I may speak with a distict manager or taylor made directly.
