I think if Sergio had offered up a sincere apology, the incident would be long forgotten by now. But he didn't and it hasn't. And I don't think it will be.

Agreed. The whole "it's not a big deal" and "I didn't spit, I just let it fall down" was an obnoxious way to handle it. "It was a mistake, I regret it, and I apologize" would have been nice.

I agree with Thrash13 - Tiger hasn't always been the model citizen on a golf course, e.g. when he gets upset and swears out loud or slams the club down - I think he's trying to watch what comes out of his mouth which is good.

Back to Sergion, if I was losing tournaments with the flat stick the way Sergio has been, I'd consider spitting in the cup. I don't think he did it out of malice but out of self disgust. Last year Sergio had the highest GIR % through most of the season only to lose it on the green. When he first started he was one of the best putters out there - hard to figure out why he's struggling so much on the green.

I'm sure that one of the reasons many Americans dislike him is because he's a major reason he and other Euros are whipping the US at the Ryder cup - come on, admit it. I'd personally like to see him (someone, anyone) challenge Tiger to make it more interesting.

I think it would be great to see some of the new young guns step up and challenge Tiger but we have seen it time after time they fall short, and the only time they do catch him is if he allows himself to be caught through his own mistakes.

Here's a blurb from Norman Chad's "Couch Slouch" column of April 30, 2007.

Now that's funny!

Haha... and he could go from villain to hero awfully quickly if that were the case.

Sergio is Euro Trash like the lot of them... He is a spoiled brat.

Exactly. Euro-Trash all think they were born with a better cup to spit in.

This is a gentleman's game, and he has never showed any respect for it. His peers need to start putting the smack down on him.
