Looking to cap off my bag with a new fairway wood, something that will give me the chance to really chase after those long par 5's or perhaps super long par 3's. Here is my current setup...

Ping G2 Craz E Putter- Best mallet in the GAME.

Callaway X20 4-SW- looking to change to something more clean and workable next season

Junk 52* Gap Wedge- Gets the job done

Callaway X Tour 60* Wedge- ZIPPY

Warrior Custom Golf 19* Hybrid- Got it free..

Adams Tight Lies 13* Strong 3 Wood- GETTING RID OF.. Sentimentality < DISTANCE

Titleist 910 D2 9.5* Driver- High Draws down the line all day.

So some future changes are scheduled in the irons category, but worry bout that later, maybe when the 712 AP2's come out. Who knows.  The Tight Lies 3 wood is the next to go. Got it as a hand me down from a friend of my mom's. The old all steel head just doesn't get the job done, simply doesn't have the distance in it I desire.  Any suggestions on ANY clubs in my bag are much appreciated. I know the season is wearing out somewhat, especially for us in the Northern US, but I'm hoping to play some fall golf this year over the weekend.  Thanks in advance for any help given!

I just went through a similar search for a club between my 19* hybrid and my driver.  I wasn't necessarily looking for something off the fairway on long par 5s (as I hit the hybrid 200-215 yds which is usually long enough)...but more for an alternate to driver on short or tight driving par 4s...or for those rounds the driver decides to not cooperate with me.  I tried 15*/16* hybrids, 4-woods and just couldn't see the yardage gains I wanted over the 19*.  I then tried the 14* Taylormade R11 3-wood and all I can say is search is over.  Without adjusting the loft, I hit this club 225-240 and when I really catch it it has gone 260+.  I also love the ability to add/drop a degree and alter the face to open/closed as needed.  The feel is a little dead as compared to others I tried...but the performance is undeniable.  I suggest you give it a try...good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the input! Yeah i hit my 19 hybrid around there also, I used to have the superfast 1.0 3 wood, but i had a regular flex and i didn't really like the grip so i sold it instead of getting it fixed up, as I wanted a stronger degree than 15. But I agree with you on TM 3 woods. They make some real bombs over there at TaylorMade. I feel like all their clubs nowadays are known for deadly distance. I'll be sure to try the R11 3 wood.  Only thing is I'm sure i'll get a bunch of crap from the parents as to why i'm buying a new club when i just bought a new driver haha. Also, with the driver not cooperating thing, haven't experienced much of that yet with my 910. It is truly a piece of work!

You're looking for a 3W or a 4W that will work for you. And, the shaft will be a big part of this. See if you can test out fairway woods on a launch monitor, and get some data to use in your decision.

As for irons, if you don't want to buy new, you might consider the X20 Tours. Callaway Preowned has some available. If you go this route and are considering Project X shafts, note that these are a bit stiffer than comparative Dynamic Gold shafts.

I stumbled across some X20 Tours at Christmas time, shafted in PX 5.0, and swapped out my X20s for them. X20 Tours move through rough much cleaner than X20s and are easier to line up. I have parred eight of the last ten Par 3s I have played, thanks to the irons. (But I'm having hip trouble, and am all over the place with my driver and FWs, hence the lofty HDCP.)

Might want to consider the X20 Tours.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Thanks for the 3W/4W suggestion, any specific suggestions you have tho are much appreciated. And i'm actually looking to get something thinner and more workable than the x20's and x20 tours.  Maybe some blades? Who knows.

I have been using my TM Rescue 17 degree in place of my R7 3 wood. A little easier to hit and I get the same distance, about 240-260. The Rescue is like a modified fairway wood and not so much of a hybrid IMO.

Yeah i was thinking about getting just a low degree hybrid instead because i've been money all year long with my hybrids. And they're cheaper! Thanks for the input man.  Are you talking about this year's Rescue?

The TM Rescues I use are last years models.

17* Titleist 910H and the Cobra S3 Pro Forged combo set is what I recommend. Obviously you need to try out different clubs and woods to determined what you like best, but the feel of these irons is amazing. I think the new Titleist hybrids are the best looking hybrids on the market at the moment. I should have a 17* in my bag very soon to replace my 15.5* fairway wood.

Titleist 905T 9.5* (Mitsubishi Rayon JAVLN FX V7)

Titleist 909F2 13.5* (Oban Devotion 7)

Titleist 906F4 15.5* (Aldila VS Proto 80-S)

Cobra S3 Pro Forged-M 3-PW (DG SL300's hard stepped)

Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 54* & 60*

Scotty Cameron Circa 62

Titleist 9.5 S83 Staff Bag

FJ Icon, Sport, and DryJoy's

Yeah i really like the look of those new Titleist hybrids, but I'm not sure whether I should get a 3 wood or not.  Again I hit my 19 degree hybrid 205-215 on an average shot. I'm looking for something I can hit at LEAST 230, between 230 and 250.  I feel that a nice 910F or Fd would fit nicely. Better go read up on some reviews..

I have a *15 910F and a *19 910H

Off a tee I am hitting the fairway wood strait as an arrow and about 230-245 yards

Off the fairway I can hit it 220 but VERY inconsistantly.

The hybrid is a good 200-210 for me off the fairway 190ish out of the ruff and I seldom need it off the teebox.

The hybrid is very sold off the ground.

(my swing speed is about 95-100mph with the driver)

Hope that helps.

I use a tm 14 degree tp rescue with a x100 shaft and it goes a long long way but its not ideal for approaches as it has quite a low trajectory.

I also own an old r7 tp 3 wood 15 deg which is a beautiful club to use of the deck and from the fairway although it doesnt often make it into my bag. If you want to try something on the cheap i recomend this club as you can pick them up for next to nothing now the r9 and r11 have been introduced.

 910D2 9.5 Stiff

 906F3 PT 3 wood Stiff

 Pro100 Blades 3-PW X100

 Vintage 52 and 60 wedge

 C67

where did you find a tp rescue 1 iron? And yeah i think i'm changing my mind and am more leaning towards a strong 3 wood. I have quite the high ball flight myself so I don't generally worry too much about the approaches.  Thanks for the rec! I used to have an r7 5 wood back when it was first out and i loved it.  I love the feel of most TM clubs, but I just recently purchased my first Titleist piece, and boy is it a thing a beauty! I'm thinkin maybe the 910 f? Who knows though.

Thanks for that Stonecold, Do you have a 910 for driver? If so, how far do you hit it? Just trying to gauge the distance between us here.. really contemplating a 910 f.  Maybe I'll just get a 909, but I thoroughly enjoy the SureFit Tour capabilities this year.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
