I live in VB and have played there once.  Pretty nice overall, since it used to be a TPC.  It is definitely long, but I think the other close by courses (Arnold Palmer's Signature and Heron's Ridge) are harder.  Not that harder is necessarily better, especially for me.

Ya, I agree it is one of the better courses in the area, including the others I mentioned.  Most of the other courses in VB are older and shorter.  The closest course I live to is Bow Creek, which is a typical city course, but cheap.  Normally go the driving range there mostly.  I play Honeybee, Stumpy Lake, and Redwing mostly I'd say.  Redwing is way overrated and overpriced in my opinion, especially for a city course, but I've got friends who like to go there.  If I want to spend some money, I'll go play Signature.  If I want to take a drive I'll play Nansemond River in Suffolk.  Probably my favorite course around the area.

Yes, Hell's Point is a little gem, I forgot to mention it.  It's pretty close to VB National and Signature.  I haven't played there in some years though, so don't know the current condition.  It's a Rees Jones course and you want to stay on the fairway at all costs.  Lots of woods and it was built basically in a swamp.  That's the nice thing about the general area (southern VB).  You have Arnold Palmer, Fred Couples, Rees Jones, and Pete Dye courses all within 5-10 minutes of each other.  They are all quality courses in their own right.
