Ours is 3 rounds (54 holes) of stroke played on 3 consecutive days.  The tournament is flighted, and the club champion can only come from the championship flight, and that is the only flight which is scored at gross - no handicaps applied.  Anyone can declare for that flight, but in reality it's mostly handicaps from 9 to scratch.  We also recognize a net or handicap champion, but that is more like a consolation award that comes from any of the flights which play net.

Sounds like how ours is formatted. Doesn't look like I'll be going to the Championship flight this year! Hopefully in the next few years

Heading out now for the first round.  54 holes played over the next 3 days. I'm just in 4th flight, so no real glory, but I want to do the best I can anyway.  Hope my game is in order.

Our championship is just one round, stroke play. (It's a public course, so the "club" is mostly members of the various leagues.) They have three men's flights and two women's flights. Prizes (merchandise credit at the pro shop) are awarded for the low gross in each flight and the four low net scores excluding the low gross winner. Low gross also gets a trophy.

I've played the last three years, always in the middle flight, and generally shot poorly. I think my score has been within a shot or two of 90 every year. This year's tournament was this past Saturday, and I was again in the middle flight. I shot a 78, matching my all-time low round, and won the low gross. I would have been T2 in the net competition.

It was a feast-or-famine kind of round. I had four birdies and five bogeys on the front nine, finishing with five birdies, three pars, nine bogeys and a double bogey. I played the four par 5s in 5-over. The longest putt I made for birdie was about 10-12 feet, and I only had one other good look at birdie where I didn't make the putt.

All in all, the score looked a lot better than the round felt. It had the feel of a round that could turn sour at any moment. I'm more proud of the fact that I kept it reasonably together all the way to the clubhouse than of making five birdies in the round.

I puked all over the course (figuratively, not literally ) this year.  One of my worst performances ever in the Championship.

This weekend is the last tournament of the year, our member - member, where we get to choose our own partner among other guys in the club.  Last chance for glory.

Qualified 5th for the 16 player matchplay.

lost 3&1 in the quarter finals.

2 bogeys on 1 and 2 gave him easy wins and I was fitting to get back all the way. Missed 6 footers on 14 and 15 that would have swung the momentum big time - not to be.

Was 3 over when the match finished so reasonably happy with how I played.
