Well I have hit about 25 different irons and these are what I have narrowed it down to. I am around an 8 handicapper, but have only been playing for a couple years, am currently taking lessons, and getting better every day. I hit the ball longer than the average person, but struggle a little bit with accuracy. I am getting the irons in extra stiff as I did some work on the monitor and this is what i was told. I am ordering from Discount Dans and am 19 years old and may play on a Division 3 golf team in the near future. Here is my list, and the cost. Please take cost into consideration if possible. Thanks!!

Ping I15 - $519
Mizuno JPX 800 Pro - $679
Cobra S3 Pro Forged - $709
Minuzo JPX 800 - $599
Titleist AP1 - $599
TM Burner 2.0 - $599

Ping Eye 2's set the ball on fire, align the planets and cause world peace. Anything else is irrelevant.

Also your profile handicap is 20 but your post says you're an 8. Need to revise one of those.

On a serious note though, get off your butt, go to a golf store and try some irons out to see which feel best for your swing, rank them from best to worst and then decide if the price difference is worth the money. e.g. if you love the S3 Pro's most and the AP1's next, do you hit the Pro's $110 better or is it wasted cash?

Id go for the JPX-800 Pros and never look back.  That way you would have the feel of a forged iron but still have something that is pretty forgiving.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

From your list I voted for the JPX-800 Pro's but I'd also suggest you test the Mizuno MP-53's and Titleist AP2's, they are probably a better fit for your handicap.

With either the 710 AP1 or AP2 I'd wait a bit til the 712's come out and then you could either get the newer model or get a much better deal on the 710's when they go on clearance.

Note that the Cobra S3 forged and the TM Burner 2.0 have stronger lofts than the others. This would make the longer irons harder to hit, and may cause you unwanted distance gaps in the short irons when you select your wedge mix.

Good luck on your college golf bid!

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
