Hi all,

I've learned to take the club back to a position I'm comfortable with (above, but parallel to shaft plane).

Now what I'm struggling with is how to get the club consistently back to the shaft plane through the downswing. I know there are a number of ways to do this (some golfers stay above the plane until right around impact, while others (e.g. Hogan) get to it earlier in the downswing.

I'm struggling with how to do it. Some say "drop your hands", but that doesn't really make sense to me because my hands have upward momentum at the end of the backswing, so I can't simply "drop" them, I need to change their direction. For example, pull them down.

One thing that seems to get me back on plane is feeling like I'm pulling the hands straight down (towards the ground) from the top, but I feel like this will pull me under the plane. Help!

Try slowing down your tempo maybe and letting your hands slow down at the top. Then you want to start your downswing from the ground up. Starting with legs to hips then torso etc.. If you're bringing the club back on a proper plane, this should help bring it through properly.

What he's doing in this video with the one armed swings is showing how if you "drop your hands" the club will come down on that plane. If the upwards momentum is a problem, again, try slowing the tempo down.

Hope this helps

well what you feel and what your doing might be two different things.

For my swing, i basically just lift my hands to swing, my body naturally rotates open and my shoulders get to 90 degrees. Its crazy, i use to think i have to get width and deep hands, but i got the club way to behind me, and i would swing so wide i would transition to far left and not stay centered. I recently decided to just lift my hands as i rotate my shoulders open, and this sets the club faster, it shortens my swing width-wise. Basically from there i just try to drop the clubhead on the ball and maintain my eyes on the ball, this basically feels like my hands drop, and my arms stay connected to my chest.
