I thought I'd pass this along to those interested in Adams irons. This is only my second post here. I've been a lurker for a while, but finally decided to get involved. It's a great place.

Anyway, I recently had a fitting for new irons about three weeks ago. It came down to the CB2 and the Cleveland CG16 Tour. My preference was for the CB2. However, just as I was about to "pull the trigger" the fitter gave me the bad news that the CB2 was no longer available. I'm a lefty, and he wasn't sure if it was just the left handed models that were out of stock. So, I contacted Adams and this was their reply:

"Ron,

Thank you for your comments.  The CB2 Left handed irons are completely sold out.  The irons themselves have been discontinued.  We will be launching a new iron set shortly.  That is why we no longer have the CB2’s available.

Thanks,

So, it looks like we'll be getting a replacement for the CB2.

What do you all think will be the replacement? The CB2 was/is such a great club.

That's too bad.  I have the CB2 4 iron.  I've got the A4 irons and wanted a 4 iron, so I picked up the CB2.  The folks at Adams said the CB2 was the replacement for the A4.  They are very similar and feel the same when hit.  I'm guessing they will have a similar design with a bit more mass down low like the CB2 and A4.

The A4 design is what Yani Tseng and Tommy Gainey play.  Yani has won 4 majors, so I guess they are OK.

Now that you mention it, the CB2 and A4 irons do look remarkably similar (aside from the obvious difference in colour) and they are both forged.

Visiondr,

They are both forged and only have minor differences.  The CB2 has a bit more mass behind the sweet spot.

I really like the innovation and quality of Adams clubs. My guess is that the idea pro A12s are the CB2 update. The "pro" line might be selling or marketing better than "CB". I noticed that the Adams website lists the CB1 as the "pro" CB1. Maybe the word "pro" sells clubs better than "idea black CB". Adams has many iron offerings and having both a CB1 and CB2 may have been confusing consumers with overchoice. Maybe there wasn't enough room for CB1 and CB2, and CB1 was selling better. I really like Adams, but they have recently been releasing new clubs at a Taylormade like pace. I appreciate giving the consumer lots of options, but when a company is frequently releasing new product, there can be the impression that the company is micro marketing a bit too much. If you're right, that's unfortunate for lefties as the only player's iron available to us is the MB2. This leaves lefties out in the cold wrt a player's cavity back. I really don't want a bunch of hybrids in my bag as the Idea sets have. That's where the CB2 was so great. You had a combination of forgiveness and playability that neither the MB2 or other Idea lines have.

Adams is beginning to bore me as TMAG does. The MB2 irons are a step back imho. Nothing fancy, just another muscle back club head. The A4 Forged are some of the best looking heads out there. Adams customer service and their employees leave alot to be desired as does their QC. Hell, most of their reps and CS people don't know sh*t about their own product. They are also known for putting .355t shafts in .370P hosels without shims and then making up some BS excuse as to why that, in fact, they have no clue. Try to tell me about heads being bored out and tour players wanting .355t instead of .370p. Then why bore the heads out. I love the 2 sets of fairways I have which are the BUL's and the ones in my sig BTW. Adams needs to concentrate on what they have instead of cranking out more product fast. There specs are also all over the board so their tolerances may as well be chucked out the window. I haven't even touched on their poor finished and 2nd rate paint jobs. There equipment is fine, I just wish they'd pay more attention to detail and the customer. I also can't stand the fact that if you have a problem you have to go through a certified Adams dealer and they won't deal directly with the customer. Rant over....I think.
