I am a few months into golf. Started at around 125. play twice a week and scored 100 yesterday. no higher than 110 recently.

My question is with regards to my driver loft. I was struggling to get my drive in the air so on advice I switched to a 12.5* loft driver.(and better quality, the driver I had was an old style small head and on it's last legs) It helped get the ball up and really helped my confidence. So then I felt more able to hit on the range with a big shoulder turn and hitting through the ball with the same athletic attitude I take with other sports. So now I'm at the point where I look like someone who plays golf when I swing off the first tee (not a great person who play golf... just a person who plays) . Most of my drives are in the 220-250 range with maybe 25% on the fairway and a couple of 170 yard hooks per round. Twice per round a drive will go past the 270 mark and twice in the last week I've hit a ball just over 300 yards on the fairway ( I know consistency is key, I'm trying) . The thing is the flight of my shot is so high. Compared to the people I play with it seems to be up in the air forever. (I know this is subjective). If I switch to a lower loft with the same swing what could I expect to happen if all else is equal. I have no desire for extra distance as I feel I have plenty for now. my logic is telling me that with less loft I would get less backspin and more side spin so exaggerated hooks and slices?? I don't want to spend even more time in the rough. I think I would rather hit more fairways even if that meant scoring higher for a little while.

Thanks guys. Forgive me if I used the wrong terms or procedure

**I searched for a similar topic but still felt the need to start a thread. Apologies if you disagree. Also I want to see a Pro and will as soon as budget and availability allow. Also I know that You only play 14 shots with the driver--- short game etc**

Depends on what you want. People with higher golf swing speeds will hit the ball higher usually. There are two people who have near the distance i do in my league and they hit it high as I do. The rest go lower.

Now, I can say this, if your hitting it so high that the wind is affecting your ball now, or your balooning the ball, then its time to check out for a lower loft or a new shaft. I would just go get driver fitted. Its obvious your improving, and you have to keep your tech up with your game.

My swing speed for my driver is about 112-115, i play a 10.5 degree lofted driver, with an X-stiff shaft that weights 77 grams. I really am comfortable with were its at, i find the X-stiff lets me control the ball because i know the clubface wont be whipping around through impact, and that lowers the ball flight as well. So you might want to check into a new shaft, if your getting 250, and can hit it up to 300 on occassion, you probably need a stiff shaft, probably low torque as well. With a 12.5 degree loft, i would go with a high kick point to bring the launch down so its more boring.
