I'm a HH, new player with the typical swing problems.

My wedge shots are much better and consistent thanks to the Pelz short game bible.

He says for wedge shots, a full back swing leads to disaster.

My irons are hit or miss so I was thinking if I do a 3/4 swing

and use  "more club" for all my iron shots,

maybe I would get more consistent results.

A shorter back swing would leave less room for error.

Sounds good in theory.

I'm sure I'm not the first  "genius" to think of this but why is this not a good idea?

If you are not trying to be a pro, I would think this may get you a lower score sooner.

I haven't tried this yet.

Any thoughts?

Most teaching pros suggest going with a 3/4 swing because its a more controlled swing.  The longer the swing, the more time there is for things to go wrong.

My old "full" swing was a obscenely long, I cut it down to 3/4 and instantly gained 10 yards on my irons.

My woods and hybrids I still "full" swing, but that's just becuase Ive been hitting them quite well that way and dont want to mess it up.

Yes I'm Aware That's 16 Clubs!

what most people call their 3/4 swing is really where their full swing is...make any sense?  I.E. too many people have far too long of a swing.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

I used to really over-swing but since my return to the game I try to have a slower, shorter backswing.  I'm not yet as  consistent as I want to be but when I hit the ball solidly the revised swing gives me at least ten more yards on my irons with fewer mishits, and those balls hit from somewhere other than the sweet spot give me substantially better yardage with less dispersion from my target line than they do with a full swing.  Keep it up with the 3/4 swing.  I think you'll find that you make better contact more often.

I shortened my backswing over the last few months and have found an increase in my consistency. My irons have a shorter backswing, and believe it or not my driver is even shorter. Consistency and accuracy are much more solid and my distance isnt that much shorter.

I posted a thread (with a video of my swing) on this hoping to get some comments as i was a bit concerned that my back swing was actually too short.

Here is the thread if anyone would feel as kind to give me some constructed critism on it. (sorry to kind of navigate away from this thread)
