I would like to go to Ireland and Scotland to golf and can afford to do it.  But I am a single and don't want to share a room and a single queen/king size bed with a stranger.  I hear there are rates for singles but why do all travel agencies want me to pay for two people if I am a single.  Where are the groups of singles who want to golf?

They don't.

They don't want single people to think that they can pay half price for a room.

It's an unfortunate fact for singles when they travel.

That's why you are paying for a room, not per person.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I'd love to go....but alas, I have family and job responsibilities that won't allow it. I went to Scotland 20 years ago and it was absolutely beautiful.  Unfortunately, I didn't golf.

Even though it seems like money isn't an issue for your, there are alternatives to hotels that can cut down on lodging costs.  I periodically stayed in Bed-and-Breakfasts when I went.  If they're a little off the main travel routes, you can sometimes save significant money over hotels and get a nice room with breakfast.  I don't know how BandBs compare today, but it's something you can look at especially since they may have single rooms or at least reduced single rates.
