Did I mention that everything was going ******* left today? Okay, just checking...

So evidently in correcting my push fade with the driver I have done something horribly wrong with my irons and it even trickled into my driver at the end...which is what I feared would happen. It was just earlier today that I was talking about how I had finally corrected my push fade with the driver (I've ALWAYS played a 3 wood off the tee with a slight draw)...and BAM! Some shots were clearly complete pulls...some by as much as 20 yds. Other shots were played with such a ridiculous push draw that I might as well have just kept the push fade with the driver. It was so bad when I left that I was just working on pitch shots of 30 yds...and STILL having to play 10-15 yds of draw...no lie, which I didn't even think was possible according to laws of ball flight.

My first thought is that I MUST be clearing my hips too quickly, but tried correcting it that way...no dice. My second thought was that I had to be coming ridiculously far inside and out on my swing path, but am not sure. Would doing the 3 tee drill correct this? I'm not quite sure and haven't really ever had this problem before.

Sorry this is long winded and I have no video, I was by myself today with no tripod...or camera for that matter....

Any thoughts?

P.S. Did you guys know I was hitting everything left today?

P.S.S. My father's phenomenal advice was to just aim further right...

interested to see the feedback you get.  I have the same problem when I swing too flat....as a one plane type swinger I can really over cook a draw big time and get that 15 yards of draw with a pull.  What happens to me is that when I get too flat and inside I tend to come over the top and pull draw it....at least that is the feel that I have.  I concentrate on just a touch of lift as I turn and it goes away.

What do you mean by "a touch of lift"? I've not really heard that term used before, sorry.

I rotate my left forearm a bit more going back and allow the arms to raise a little bit to steepen the plane.  It is a feel thing for me and the difference is not that much from looking at my swing on video...couple of inches maybe.  good luck

extend more with the spine going into impact. If you approach the ball in to out (sounds like you do), but don't extend enough with you spine into impact, your front shoulder can be too far in front of the ball at impact (upper center moves forward). This results in overdraws. Extending more with your spine will likely turn the overdraw into a push draw

Thanks for the replies guys, but I actually realized that I was lining up with my hips a bit too open. I squared my hips, got back to hitting a slight push draw and broke 80 (77) for the first time today since resuming play this past April (it had been over four years since I touched a club). I'm stoked, to say the least...and the best part of it all? I received an invite to play in a tournament at Sierra Meadows in Oakhurst, CA on the 14th of this month from the guy I paired up with. It's a good day 'tater.

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
