I need to put new grips on my clubs. I'm in Chandler, AZ. Golfsmith charges $3.50/club. Is there any local place that does good work and might be a little cheaper?

Golfsmith has the Clubvantage card that you can buy for $50 that gives you  28 regrips at no extra charge.  You also get 15% extra on a club trade, 50% off on club fitting and repair, and 10% off on selected products. The card goes for $29.95 if you make a minimum purchase.  I bought a Lynx LXW Sand Wedge with the 2010 grooves for about $30 which lowered the card price by $20.  Heck of a deal!

Do them yourself. I had never regripped before myself and tried and it is super easy. I bought a pint of the lubricant and a package of the precut strips for 11 dollars at Golf Galaxy and took me about 30 minutes to regrip 13 clubs and I have enough solution left to do another 60 or so. They turned out great. It really is easy if you use plenty of solution on them. Use a catch tray to catch the extra solution if you want to and make it last longer. There are plenty of diy videos and instructions out there it.

I always regrip my clubs myself.  It is a lot easier than you think.  I was a little hesitant at first, but after the first one, it was a snap.  You can probably find some YouTube video showing how it is done.  Takes about 30 minutes for the entire iron set.

I've never gripped my own clubs, I've always headed to the local shop.  This summer I used Golfsmith and it was easy.  I brought them in mid-day and they gripped them within 20 minutes.  Yeah, there's a fee but it's a service.  From what I see grips are the cheapest way to better your game and it does have a huge impact on your swing.  For $70-80 you can regrip your entire bag.  Well worth it.

Just regripped two putters with a roadside tire inflater.. maybe used about 40-50psi to get the fresh tape loose from my new TM Ghost Spider.. the older the putter the less bond it seemed because the Odyssey putter grip from 2 years back just blew right off.

You just need the inflater to get the grips off once you hear the air break through the bottom end of the grip then you know you're good to start wiggling off the grip.

The plus with this is that if the new grip you put on just doesn't work out for you, you still have the old one to go back to in the mean time. And you might even get away with returning the new grip you bought.

Check youtube for some good videos on how to do this. A few videos show a $35 adapter you can purchase but that is unnecessary.

All of that being said - if you don't want to do it yourself.. any golf store can do it for you for a few bucks a club..

I would go into your garage or basement or backyard, possible a deck if that is available, and if none of those are available your living room will od just fine.

Seriously regripping is the easiest thing to do to a golf club. Its hard to screw up to bad and even if you do, you can buy another grip for less then the price of having a shop do it for yah.

i'm planning to take you guys' recommendation and re-gripping myself. I do have one concern. I do not have a vice; is that a nice to have or a must have?

Got a $20 vice from lowe's that's more than sufficient for holding my clubs and cost of the vice is less than cost of paying to have clubs re-gripped.
