I had the chance to test a few clubs with trackman the others day, I was alone so dint understand really how to use it but I noticed on thing. I was only using a 7 iron as it was the only club and shaft combo in all the clubs I wanted to try, any way most clubs had a launch angle of 22-24 but the Taylor made MB had a angle of 26-27 but with the same distance. What is the optimal launch angle of a 7 iron ???

Depends on what the swing speed and spin numbers are.

Mostly you try to get into "optimal" when you're talking about your driver, high launch low spin

Has both meters and yards for the tour players.  Not really optimal, but probably the best blend of control, and distance with low scores in mind.  Who cares about "optimal" right?  Scoring is all that matters.  These guys can score and this is how they hit.  The LPGA numbers are probably better for most guys if they really want to compare.

As mvmac said, optimum launch angle is mainly of concern when choosing driver.

Other things to consider:

  • Loft of club - not all 7i have same loft
  • Characteristics of clubhead - head with lower Vertical Center of Gravity will tend to hit the ball higher
  • Shaft kickpoint (a minor influence) - high KP launches ball lower | low KP launches ball higher
