It should be a good tournament,Luke is just so good all the time it's scary.Rory will give it his all because he knows he needs a win or a total collapse by Mr.Donald,which i think is highly unlikely.Like you said Sean look at what happened at the fed-ex.I love these type of scenarios because every shot is so big.I guess the only thing that stinks is that it starts at 3 a.m.,i guess i will have to set the dvr.Do you think Luke will stay on top and win??

It is called predictions,that is part of the way you look at sports in general.You have to give a prediction on who you think will win and what you think will happen.The reason you do discuss who you think will win is because this is a golf forum and that is what you do on forums.Once again you fail to stay on the topic.I am sure everyone that is talking  about the Dubai on this thread would like to see you act your age and stay on topic.

You ask if Rory will win.

The answer is that nobody knows.

If you had asked who you'd like to win, that's different.

And for you to say that Rory will win because you know that he really wants to is just plain ludicrous and funny.

Rory will be okay, he was as ill last week when he won. Besides there is truth in the ancient saying "Beware the injured golfer", eg Tiger and the US Open for extreme examples.

Lots of very good players competing, any of them could win. A well rested Sergio would get my money though.

He doesn't need a win or a total collapse. He needs both.

Rory must win AND Donald must finish 10th or worse...he can't get it done with anything else.

LOL i do think that Rory needs both things to happen.Are you sure it's 10th or worse?I thought if Luke finished 8th with three other guys or worse and Rory won Luke would come in second.I could be wrong but hey the bottom line is that Luke has it in the palm of his hand.Can't wait to see this unfold.

Been on the European Tour's website looking at the event and managed to horrify myself (again) about how rich relatively mediocre golfers get with not much in the way of results.

Christian Nilsson, last man in this week. €503k earnings for the year with 1 top five finish (third at the Portugese Masters) and 4 other top ten finishes.

I wish I was good enough to earn a living like that.

As far as Dubai, it's really simple. Does Luke want it more than Rory, or vice versa.

Franky  - goodness knows how he knows this, but obviously he has some inside info - reckons, sorry, "knows" that Rory REALLY wants to win - which I guess is a pretty unusual mindset for someone entering a golf tournament - but, hey, if the Frankster says it, it must be true.

Good natured (?!?) kidding aside, if you were go wager on a player "knowing he had to win", which player would that be? Luke just did it recently. Rory sort of did that at the US Open. There are a couple guys playing who it could be said have done that recently.

Is there a player in the field that just sort of has that something extra? A player that when fully motivated and in the moment (i.e. not trying crazy shots just because he can) that's temptign enough to take over the field? Is that player Rory? Will it be someday - like Tiger was? What if you could place your bets after Friday's round?

Just saying, some athletes can take their game to another level whereas other good to great players just have that one level.

If I had to bet my life on a particular player winning, and that player knew he was playing for my life, it'd be McIroy.

Of all the players I've seen, apart from Greg Norman and Tiger, he is the only one whose game is on a higher tier than all of the others and whose self belief actually helps him 99% of the time.

A novice could watch 100 players on the practice tee and not discern any real differences.
They could watch Tiger and Norman in their prime - and now McIlroy and think "Wow..that guy is different."

So.....yeah....McIlroy.

Unfortunately I fear Rory has the same problems, all the talent. The ability to run off and hide from the field but a problem with winning tight tournaments. Lost in the hype around the US Open was the Masters melt down and the fact that wasn't the first tournament he should have won.

Hopefully, the win last week from behind means I'm hopelessly wrong. I think watching Monty in the 90s has scarred me regarding Europeans fulfilling their potential.

I wasn't talking about Norman's major record, or his fragility under pressure when it realy mattered. I was talking about the ability to make other golfers look ordinary.

Norman would be well down my list too, if a life depended on it.

      I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.

      Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
