This is hard for me.  Erik, James, MIke, and David all know how much I have been working on my swing over the past year.  I have been making some huge changes and have made a lot of progress.  However, it is very frustrating to play poorly and not strike the ball solidly on the course.  I know that I am moving in the right direction.  I also know that because of a lot of bad things that were going on in my backswing, I had to make a lot of compensations in the downswing to find the ball and hit it far enough and straight enough to play the game.  Now, I am having trouble hitting the ball solidly consistently enough to score decently.  But, I am also hitting some terrific shots as well.

All of this is just to say that changes take time and I have to be patient.   What do the rest of you who are retooling your swing do to keep from pulling your hair out?

Some pull their hair out like you do (I'm running out of hair).  Others abandon their swing changes to sooth their ego and score better with their old swing that will never take them far beyond their current handicap.  It sounds like you are on the right track and getting great coaching just need to believe that in end it will all be worth it.

I am not abandoning what I am doing.  I know that it will be beneficial long term.  Still posting mid 80s scores when I can shoot mid 70s is frustrating.  I know that it will be better soon.  I just need to be able to transfer the range to the course and that will take me a while especially since I don't get to practice or play quite as much as I am used to at the moment.   If I didn't believe in what we are doing, I would have just gone back to chipping and putting a couple times a week and scraping it around as best I can.  I could practice that more while I am also working on my long game.

If it helps any your worst days are still better than my best day.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll get there if you follow your coaches advice.

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
