Next Week: Slow Play Week

Next week is going to be "slow play week" (as in we hate it, not we like it!!) on The Sand Trap. Every article is going to talk about slow play. Bag Drop will talk about equipment and goodies that can help you play faster, Cody will rant about slow play, and right on down the road. We're declaring war on slow play, as a matter of speaking, and we hope to raise even a little awareness.

I'm a dad. I'm tired of deciding not to go to the golf course because I'll be gone for six hours. It's time we put a stop to it.

But... we need a slogan for the week. "National #@%*!& Slow Play Week" doesn't really cut it. Offer up suggestions here, please, and we'll include your name in the banner if we like your suggestions. If we get more than one we like, we'll rotate them randomly for the entire week.

This is really an excellent idea for a theme.

I'm a fast player and I love walking when I can. I'm always ready to hit when I get to my ball. If I can play at that pace I almost always play well. The slower the pace, the worse I play. There's some kind of natural rhythm to the game for me when play moves along. If I have to wait for 5 minutes to hit my shot my game goes in the toilet.

I'm really thankful I work for myself and can play during the week. Most of my golf buddies are salesmen and can sneak away a morning or afternoon a week and get in a round so it works out well for us. Playing on weekends around here is horible and almost guaranteed to be 5-1/2 hrs a round or more. No thanks.

I like the suggestions so far, but I'm looking for something more like a title for the week. Something short, something that can go in a banner sized image in rather large text. That sort of thing. Like... (and these no doubt stink):

The word "Week" doesn't need to be included.

National "SLAP A SLOW PLAYER WEEK"!!

BTW our league started this past week. 3 hours 15 minutes......for NINE HOLES!! Are you kidding?? My oppenent hit his drive 250 on a 540 yard par 5 and proceeded to wait for the green to clear before hitting his 3 wood 70 yards short. If you're not half way there after hitting the ball off a tee how are you going to reach in two??? Sorry, I know that's not the intent of this thread... Just had to rant a bit!!

National "SLAP A SLOW PLAYER WEEK"!!

Hey, I used to hit my 3-wood longer than my driver. I used to use a Ben Hogan CS3 with a stiff shaft...well, I don't have the clubhead speed, and it felt like hitting a tin can that only went 200, maybe 210 yards. (I since got a new driver). My 3-wood, however, if I catch it good, will go 240, easily...I've landed on the next tee box when I was 200 yards to the green before.

Went out early both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend and had no problem playing in under 4 hours both days. Sunday morning I was paired up with a husband and wife and she obviously did not play that much and we finished in 3:45. We all went up and hit our balls and just played. I walked, the couple had a cart and the 4th guy had a cart too and we moved right along.

Saturday morning was a bit different as I played with a couple of guys, one of whom was a 4 handicap and one was about an 15. I think we finished in 3:15.

Never felt rushed at all either day. Proves it can be done and quite easily. The thing is, no one ever thinks they are slow.
