Odyssey has come out with the Flip Face putter where each side of the face has the White Ice insert and the other the new Metal X insert. Personally, I don't care for any moving parts in any of my clubs and also don't find the need to have more than one insert in one putter. Any thoughts?

Best Regards,
Ryan

I'm assuming switching inserts in-round would be illegal? I guess that makes it like the adjustable drivers. Sound gimmicky, and I agree about the moving parts. Hope it has a good locking mechanism.

Isn't having 2 different hitting surfaces on a club illegal? You can have symmetrical faces, but one with different specs shouldn't be conforming.

It seems stupid, btw. Legal or not, I'd rather have easily changeable inserts instead of having both built in. I also prefer a milled steel face with no insert, and putters with a hole in the top at address can't look too good, and probably won't be easy to align.

Putters should not be adjustable. People do enough damage to their game by using drivers that fix their problems, imagine the temptation of an adjustable putter!

This isn't two hitting surfaces. You have to set it to one and leave it there the entire round. "Adjusting" it (even changing the loft, so I agree, the thing better lock really well) would be against the rules.

But it doesn't have "two hitting surfaces." One is on the back of the face, and thus, isn't "hittable."

Gotta question ... would using a 2 sided putter, a la Notah Begay, for left handed shots off the green be against the rules?

For example; a left handed chip shot to get the ball back into play when the player has no right handed shot available due to being up against a tree or some other obstacle.

I think it's uninteresting concept. I applaud the innovation. Not sure if I'd game it or not?

Looks like  a band aid club ala "chippers", or that putter that looks like a rock hammer. The only conceivable use I can think of is maybe if you really really slow greens use the metal side and vice versa for fast greens, but aren't we supposed to try and be adjustable as human beings? I cannot see really serious golfers buying this, but I suppose that's not who they designed it for. Certainly no one in any place to play competitive strict USGA rules golf would use this, so violating rules really shouldn't be an issue here.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
