Me too. Don't want to jinx him, but I just dozed off while watching the TGC promo of tonight's match, and dreamed that he took a big divot and popped up his first tee shot.

Rory started shaky but obviously looking sharp now.  Tiger looking sharp tee-to-green, but just missed two very makeable birdie putts.

Tiger is driving the ball very well so far, but he can't get the short irons and wedges close enough. Rory and Donald look both a bit ordinary today so far.

And well...they don't show any other players on Sky

Rory's playing his third shot out of somebody's martini ... hope he has a club for that.

It's mostly Rory, Luke and Tiger on TGC too.

I wish I had giant hospitality structures behind the greens at my course to deflect balls back towards the greens and keep them in bounds. If that wasn't there rory's ball would have been in the parking lot. He gets a free drop and now he has a 4 foot putt for birdie. I wonder how many strokes are saved on the PGA Tour from balls hitting spectators, grandstands, hospitality areas etc.. That just might be my first thread that I start.

In this case I agree ... Rory got a break, but often they are playing into much smaller areas around the greens than normal because much of it is roped off for the gallery.

Other than the 2nd (11th) hole, Tiger has been poor with the putter.  Just missed about a 3 footer for birdie on the 18th green (his 9th hole).

But that roped off area is still inbounds and the trouble areas would be behind the spectators...so I am unclear as what your point is. What I am saying is that players "occasionally" benefit from big crowds and structures that wouldn't be there if they were playing these courses any other time. Yea there are "smaller areas" but there is also backstops that keep their ball in play. Players with the biggest crowds, ie Tiger, Phil definitely save a few shots here and there on the tight courses because there is a wall of 15,000 fans surrounding the entire permitter of the hole. Balls that would normally go deep into the trees or into a hazard sometimes get stopped by some spectator's forehead. Phil probably benefits from this more than any player. So if you think about it, these popular players have a slight advantage. Just sayin

    • Interesting changes. The idea of relegation and promotion have always been there in a different form (getting and losing your card etc and qualifying for bigger events) but it looks like they want to define it better for top tier events. The Tour has always had A and B level events (and even lower). It will be interesting what they choose as the Challenger Series events and whether some tournaments go to the Challenger Series that used to be prestigious. Not sure how the networks will take to this knowing they have “Challenger” Series events defined that way now. Also, I’m not happy that John Henry and Theo Epstein are involved. Look what Henry has done to the Red Sox.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
