My swing speed @ Golf Etc. was clocked this morning @ 111 with the driver and around 85 average with the 5 iron.

Driver: 265-290 carry according to the LM. I play a power fade which can turn into a slice or even a hook depending how high I tee it.
3 wood: 245-250 off the deck
3 hybrid: 220-230
3 iron: 210
4 iron: 205
5 iron: usually around 195-200, but today on the LM I was carrying 200
6 iron : 185
7 iron: 175-180
8 iron: 160-170
9 iron: 145-155
PW: 120-135
50* Gap wedge: 100-110
55* Sand Wedge: 85-90
Putter: Before I got my Yes! I hit my hippo blade putter 165 down the middle

Granted these distances are majorly dependent on the way I'm swinging the club, as is apparent by my handicap, but if I'm on I can go by this pretty confidently.

Heh...that makes two of us who drive with our putters. I likewise also used to drive with my old putter, but when I got the Yes! (a $150 job), I stopped driving, since it was like...my baby.

In 1985 I was 20 years old and with a Persimmon Wood and Balata ball my driving average was around 250yds, I think the tour average at that time was about 250-255. Occasionally I would nail one around 275 and I hit a couple real close to 300 once or twice but that was very rare. In 1992 at age 27 I bought a Lynx Boom Boom 9 dergee driver with a graphite shaft and instantly gained +30 yds on my driving average and could hit it 300 when I really needed too. Funny how technology has changed the game so drastically in the past 20 years or so.

Anyways now at age 42 here are my distance averages.

Driver: 265 yds, I play more for consistancy now but I can still get it out there around 285-290 from time to time. So far this year after 6 rounds I've had two 300 yard drives, both were down wind and I hit them on the screws. Usually if I miss it, it's a block to the right and goes about 250. Occasionally I'll hit a little pull hook but those will usually carry and roll 265-275(into trouble,,,LOL).

3 Wood: Don't carry one

5 Wood: 235 yds, I love playing a little cut with this club and will only use it on the tee of short par 4's or if I can reach the green in two on par 5's.

Irons:
3iron 210-220
4iron 200-210
5iron 185-200
6iron 160-175
7iron 150-160
8iron 140-150
9iron 125-140
PW 110-125
GW 80-100
SW 60-80
LW 60 and in

There are some gaps in my iron distances so for instance at 180yds I may grip down 1/4 on a 5 iron and hit a cut shot into the green rather than try to nuke a 6 iron to get it there. But to me distance with irons are completely irrelevant. Irons are prescion instruments that are geared for accuracy not distance in my opinion! I hit what gives me the best chance to get it on the green or close to the hole.

This is a part of my game that I need to figure out because I honestly don't know. I tend to just know what club to hit when I'm playing, call it feel I guess. I do know my approximate range with a few clubs:

PW: ~ 150 yds
SW: ~ 100 yds (or less)
7: ~ 200 yds
5: > 225 yds

Damn, those are some really big yardages there. Either your short game/putting sucks, or you can't hit the ball straight...because you list yourself at a 16 handicap when those lengths are reallly huge...lol.

I will blow up on 3 or 4 holes a round and wind up double bogey or worse. That handicap is also all my last years numbers without my driver. I've played 3 times year and I would say i'm probably shooting 10 over or so now.

Driver: 290+ power draw or 260-270ish fade. Longest ever off a level tee box was 340.
3 wood (13): 250-260 off the deck with a draw. Haven't quite learned to fade this club yet. Off the tee adds a bit.

oh, ok. understandable...that's cool good luck with your game, seems like you've got a really solid foundation to build off, just need to gather some consistency I assume.

A double bogey isn't

bad ...a blow-up hole is when you get a 12. If I could get rid of lost balls, blow up holes, and could putt, I'd be scratch. That is how many balls I lose in a round.

Driver Usually 260-270 yards when I hit it well. I've been known to hit a few 290s and 280s when I really crush it, but I find swinging easier with the driver is the way to go. I hit my driver high with a little fade at the end so I don't get much roll unless its real dry. If I hit it bad it will be a big push fade way over about 40 yards, and sometimes I will hook it right about 100 yards.

3 Wood I usually hit this about 220-230. This club I usually don't have problems with hitting and just hit it straight and high.

5 Wood Usually hit this club about 200 and same for the 3 wood straight and high.
