Try them out at both. Phil plays lefty but is right handed naturally. I would see which one they play best at.

I have a friend who plays baseball/softball lefthanded but couldn't swing a golf club lefthanded to save his life.  Reason is his two brothers were right handed so when he would swing their clubs as a young child..he learned the right handed swing.

In terms of ease..being right handed is probably easier because the market is flooded with right handed clubs vs. lefties..I'd imagine even more so for kids and juniors.

Sounds like OP might look up golf guru Jimmy Ballard of "Connection" fame. Ballard got his start in the 1970s under Sam Byrd, a former Yankee baseball player who was playing on the pro golf tour.

Ballard worked with pros such as Curtis Strange and Chi Chi Rodriguez.

Ballard did a lot of analysis on "hand loading" during the swing, and drew on stars from other sports such as baseball's Steve Garvey and tennis's Arthur Ashe regarding hand action.

Also, Ballard was the teaching pro for star San Fran 49ers quarterback John Brodie, the only NFL veteran to win a Champions Tour golf event. Ballard credits Brodie with introducing the video camera to him as a way to analyze golf swings.
