I miss Payne Stewart!

I was thinking of this the other day and more than anything else the PGA tour sure could use another Payne! A player and man of that type and character may only come around once in a life time if your lucky to see it! I know Payne Stewart didn't win a million majors but that duel at Pinehurst with Phil Mickelob-son was a classic!

Payne Stewart brought a special passion to the game and if I could ever hand pick a 4some to play with it would be Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Payne Stewart. He was the only one in his time that could pull off what he did. He looked so classic in those nickers and hat, and his swing was as smooth as butter! Chances are I may never see a player of that grace and style again in my lifetime!

Basically, a man with integrity and some personality. It really is too bad that we don't get to see more personality from any of the players now. Who was the last guy besides Payne that showed any form of personality out there? Peter Jacobsen comes to mind and he is on the Champions tour now.

Blame the media as they scrutinize the players so much that they go into their private shells.

I agree Peter Jacobsen was really a great personality as well on the PGA Tour. I could set there and watch his swing impressions for hours,,LOL!

I guess you could be right about the media scutinizing the players too much. Another thing that kind of plays into that is everyone is working so hard and trying to stay so focused to try and keep up with Tiger that sometimes it looks like there's not much fun going on out there.

I'm sure at the Pro-Ams there's probably more smiles and goofing off with the fans and other players. Guy's like Payne Stewart and Peter Jacobsen could find ways to sneak in a smile or a joke now and then during on course, and post round interviews. I guess if the guy's out there now don't say much of anything then they won't get blasted for saying the wrong thing or have thier words twisted around.
