does anyone have a view on the best tempo around the greens for chipping / short pitches.

i've found that when i've hit a poor chip / short pitch it usually feels like i've been too quick, quick backswing, panic, quicker through swing, all over too soon and poor result.

a few months ago i got a good lesson on wedge play (when to use bounce and when to use leading edge etc) and have been hitting almost all shots with one wedge (51 degree) since, varying how open / much bounce is used to suit the shot.

anyway where i'm going with this is that i feel that i'm making a nice free swing but definately feels like i'm  decelerating into the ball for some shots. this is working very well and feels great.  still making solid contact and can 'feel' the ball on the clubface maybe a little longer ?

most instruction i've seen is based on accelerate through the ball .... just wondering if anyone else has experimented with this

thanks

Can be different from player to player but good idea not to have a "quick" tempo for pitch shots.  Want to let gravity allow the club head to fall and thump the ground.  Not saying that everything stops at the ball, the body continues to pivot as the clubhead is swinging.  Great thread to check out

Short game is all about feel...and everybody does it a little different.  Just practice it a lot and make sure you can control your distance, spin, and trajectory.  If you can do that and you make good contact then you must be doing something right.
