Again, I think that arguing that Tiger has affected his peers - professional golfers - continues to miss the bigger picture. Arnold Palmer affected the entire nation. Tiger has yet to do that. Again, look at the numbers. You can say all you want about how much effect you

think Tiger's had, but Arnold drove millions to pick up golf clubs. Tiger hasn't. Arnold came along at just the right moment to do it - you'll get no arguments here - but the question isn't "take away Arnold's timing, and who has had more impact." Plus "influence" and "impact" are different. Perhaps those saying Tiger simply define "impact" differently than I or any of the others who have said Arnold Palmer. I'd prefer not to have to close this thread, but it's going nowhere fast.

I have never heard of any golf course "Arnold proofing" their layout. One is 31 the other 77. I guess only time will tell who had the bigger impact. However love him or hate him, you have to respect him for bringing so much to this game. Tiger has not done bad for himself nor the game.

The game is larger than the pro circuit. "Tiger proofing," if anything, has COST regular golfers money and time. "Tiger proofing" has been bad for the game. It's led to things like the stupid trees at Augusta.

Arnie's impact was immediate, widespread, and huge. I think Tiger is too far behind to catch up, both in this race and the one being held on a golf course this weekend.

Dude, you're only three years older than me, and I can't speak for the people you know, but I know a lot of old people who are more than happy to tell me how it was in the old days when Arnold Palmer got virtually everyone interested in playing golf, not just wearing a TW hat. The numbers back them up. So let me again be clear: no more Arnold vs. Tiger chit chat. Make your choice, support your choice, and leave it at that.

What about Harry Vardon ? Tiger uses his grip , golf was a tiny sport in the usa until his touring there.

BTW, the Vardon grip is an overlapping grip -- Tiger uses an 'interlocking' grip
