Hello, Im a midhandicapper and am looking to buy a new used set of irons. I have a terrible dunlop set right now and am ready for some decent irons. Im looking into the taylormade r9s and the AP1s. I want to be able to grow into the clubs even after my handicap starts dropping. Just looking for some opinons on these clubs and if any of you have had a chance to hit side by side. Thanks

The problem with Titleist is, its hard to find used clubs in the shafts you want. Because they discontinue there clubs as soon as new ones come out. Since the 712's are out, you only get to select from what retailers have and you can't buy anything custom with them anymore. Also Titleist to me is like the Apple of the golf world, they never give you discount on there clubs like other companies do.

As for new clubs, the AP1 712 are beast, they feel great. Also the Taylormade R11's are great clubs, just soft, and have explosive power. I believe the R9 and AP1 710's were both good clubs, so i doubt you could go wrong here. Its just if your going to fit a shaft to your swing, you wont get the selection you want with out spending money to get them reshafted.

I don't know what shaft I would need, I always hit the standard regular shaft they have on them. Im sure the standard regular flex shafts that come with them will do just fine for me. I believe the standard shaft on the r9 is the kbs 90, and Im not sure on the AP1. Anyhow, does anybody have experience with the AP1 710's and the r9s with there standard shafts?

I had a set of the AP1 710's. The standard reg flex shaft is a Nippon NS, 110 gram I believe. If you get the AP1's With the stock erg flex shafts, you'll be fine - the stock shafts work well & they are very good clubs overall.

I totally agree with you saevel25, I just purchase the 712 AP1's. They are so solid and the ball just seems to come off the club so hot! I was telling Dolphin that if the AP1 710's are anything like the AP1 712's he can't go wrong with them especially for the "used" price of $229 off global golf. Taylor Made also makes great clubs, I was hitting the TM Burner 1.0's and switched over to the AP1 712's.

either club will serve you well.  i play the r9's and really like them.  i also hit the ap1's when i was shopping and liked them too, except for the price.  hit them both and you decide
