My wife is going to Phoenix for work the end of the month and I was thinking about tagging along and getting in a few rounds while she works. What are some of the must do courses? Hidden gems? If I decide to go we'll be there the 24th thru the 27th and I'll probably try to play at least 2 rounds maybe 3. Thanks

Do a search.  Must be 20 threads on this topic already.

What's in my bag:

Driver: Tour Burner 9.5
Fairway: Comp 15* Aldila NVS
Hybrids: 19* & 22*Irons: CG2 4-PWWedges: CG12 52*, 56*Putter: Studio Design Newport 1.5Ball: One BlackBag: GPS: SG3

You didn't say how much you want to pay.  Some can be pretty expensive around here this time of year.  Here are 2 mid-tier courses (probably $60-$100)  I would recommend that you probably don't hear a lot about.

Superstition Springs in Mesa, AZ

Longbow in Mesa, AZ

They are both great courses and good value.

Not sure what you mean by over rated, but if you don't think Saguaro is a top 5 public course in the PHX area IMO you'd be wrong and part of a very small minority.  I like Cholla too and wouldn''t argue if you prefer it to Saguarao, but both are among the best public courses in the PHX area.  On the other heand, Kierland is not in the top 15 of the courses I've played in the area.

    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
