I'm a newbie with an old set of hand me down Wilson clubs. I've played a few games in my life, but I'd like to play more often. I was about to buy a set of Top Flite XLs from Amazon for $199, but figured they wouldn't be much better than my old wilsons for the most part.

So I'm looking at a set of used TaylorMade 320 irons, 3-PW , R80 flex for $75. Guy says he'd rate them at an 8-10 out of 10 in condition (normal scratches, etc.). He's offered to meet me at our local range/par 3 to let me try them out.

I really don't have a lot of knowlege on this subject and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about these clubs. What to look for when I check em out, swing them, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Ray

OK, gonna bump this up one time, as I'll be looking at these clubs this weekend.

I did some research and found that these look to be early year 2000's clubs, so around 12 years old at the oldest. The reviews from when the clubs were newer are fantastic (100's of reviews equaling out to 4.55 out of 5). They look to originally cost in the 600-800 range for the set back then.

If no one knows about the specific clubs, I'd be greatful to get some tips about what to look for in a used set. I know to line them up and check consistency, look for bent shafts, cracked or torn grips, chips and dents in the grooves, check for flex.

So I've done my research, but if anyone has anymore input, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ray

I had a set of them a number of years ago and they were great. One of the best I have used. If it were me I would try to whittle down the price to $50. But I think they are a great set.

Thanks, that seems to be the average opinion on them. Just hope good 10-12 year old clubs aren't old tech these days.

The cheap top flites, may be cheap, but they're light, offset, cavity backed and all around cheap versions of new technology. That's been my dilemma. 10 year old name brand, or brand new knockoffs... guess we'll find out.

Yes very good clubs and like you set make sure the shafts aren't bent, grooves are ok.  There may be some rust by you can get that off.  I'll just add to make sure the cartridges in the cavity aren't coming out
