Well me and about a million people couldn't resist the urge so I ventured out to the course, sadly too long a wait due to volume at the full course so I headed to a nearby par 3, which was practically empty a better choice to shed those very rough swings. okay now the encouraging news, irons were good, hybrid was good, 3 wood was okay. bad news driver, chipping and putting need a fair amount of work, but that can be a good thing so next week work on rough areas and play the par 3 again. Next month at the latest will be a full course press, but overall I'm happy to be back on the grass highway.

Enjoy, Frank

Well I'm jealous!   We still have snow on the ground here, and under that probably about 18" of frost in the ground.  Going to be a month before my course opens.  :-(

Nice, at least you got out and swing the clubs!

I'm getting the itch really bad. Hit the range on Monday. Boy am I rusty.

But it's supposed to be 68* in Denver on Sunday, so me and a friend got a tee time for 18.

I can't wait to play my new AP2s!!!!

Sounds like a good reason to visit!

Most of the courses that are opening aren't in the Twin Cities proper, but in the surrounding suburbs/nearby cities.

Here's the most up to date list, which is growing fast: http://www.mngolf.org/open_courses

You're lucky to have a par 3 course long enough where you can hit a 3 wood. The longest hole on my par 3 course is about 220.

Its actually an Executive course with a couple of par 4's and 1 or 2 par 5 holes but with only 12 holes, but I call it a par 3 by some odd habit, but it is local and relatively inexpensive with grass hitting range (not open yet) its where I started taking lessons last year when I started playing this truly humblin' game, as most people refer to it.  It's easy to get out on the course with no reservations so I go from the range with my lesson (haven't actually started this years lessons yet) to the course for a walk, I find it less intimidating for a newbie like myself, but with enough bells and whistles to get you up and running.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
