I recently watched a UTube video of Greg Norman, a supremely talented driver of the ball, and he was being compared to Mike Austin, someone i never heard of. I mean Greg is one of the greats, who wouldn't want his swing.  And the video went on to tell me  that Austin had the most efficient and 'natural' swing, even good for the joints and lower back.  Maybe. But i am confused about the 'classical' swing vs. the 'modern' version. What is the diff?  And if Jack, Gary, Sam, Ben, Greg...etc could be so good with the classical swing, why on earth change to something different.  The video also claimed that the PGA only endorses one  swing, like a religion endorses only one kind of theology.

Mike Austin was a long hitter. (mapped to 155mph during his heyday)

A 14 handicap learning the Mike Austin system shoot under par in 3 months and hit 400yard drives in long drive competition.

The classical system works just fine and is better than the modern system.

It wont kill your back as the modern swing does.

It will last you a lifetime due to Mike Austin hit 300y drives at age 78.

Try that with some guys swing out there like smooth swinging Fred couples....

Fred wont be able to at that age if he even can walk then.

The modern swing started with Nick Faldo.

He couldnt handle pressure in majors so he thought why not fix my swing so I can handle pressure better.

So he built the big myth muscles control the swing, take away the timing etc..rotational all that stuff.

Nick Faldo lost his dynamic motion during the latter part of the 1995-2000 and ended his career due to him couldnt keep up with the other guys. Nothing he tried worked, either swing nor mental trainers like Kjell Enhager.

I blame Leadbetter as he also seems to ruined michelle wie.

The main difference between the classical system is how the hip moves and the back leg short stop motion.

Good source of that is mickey wright, Payne stewart, ian woosnam.

The release also differs as you can create a ton of speed that way, can look at Luke Donalds release as he does that even with a modern swing mechanics.

I do the MA system due to this,

I save my back.

Longer and more accurate.

Accuracy and precison is up.

Low maintaince.

Mike Austin couldnt putt, which btw is the key to scoring out there.

Austin holds the record for longest drive in a USGA sanctioned golf tournament, 515 yards in the 1974 U.S. Senior Open. And this was at 64 years of age!
