Any suggestions with balls?

I started golfing last year and I have always used Nike soft balls. I am starting to really see improvements in my game. I played today and had 9 bogeys and 1 par which is huge for me.

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on changing which balls I use.

I am really looking for a ball that does not slice that much. I was told Nike soft balls slice more because they are low compression?? I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to equipment so any information is very helpful. thank you!

there are a bunch, i always liked Noodles as a step up from the traditional 'rock' balls like top flites and comperable junk..

Bridgestone e5-7 depending on your swing I've heard are pretty good as well...

I'd spend you money on range time and practice before spending big dough on balls, get your ball striking honed and you will see alot more improvement than any dimple design could give you.

Are you serious? Which Noodle is a step up from its comparable Top Flite?  Noodles are about on par with Top Flite. Neither better nor worse.  I liked the Bridgestone B330 series, and can't comment on either the E5 or E7, but the E6 is certainly as lifeless a rock as any mid priced ball out there.

Depending on your price range, I like Titleist NXT Tour and DT Solo.  I think you can find both for around $20 - $25 a dozen.

I recently bought 2 dozen Titleist "Tour Distance" balls from Costco for $30.  I have only played 1 round in the past year, so have nothing recent to compare them with.  They seemed fine for me, but with firm greens, they didn`t seem to stop very quickly, but I was playing with new irons so maybe it was them or my swing.  Distance off the tee seemed good, but I was playing with a new driver, so again, not much baseline to compare them.

Does anyone know anything about this ball?  Are these a decent choice for a 5-15 handicapper?

noodles are better than top flites, another decent cheap ball is the srixon soft feels. I have been playing b330 rx's and really like them. Going to try nxt tour s as well at some point.

Callaway warbirds are a bit harder but always fly straight for me and they go for about $15 a box. Titleist NXT always hit fine to.

Some golf shops sell balls as singles, pick a couple and try.

yea, i agree with everyone that a ball cannot help you with a slice

BUT i would try the e6

as for nike balls, i just tried out the PD soft that i got for christmas secret santa and i was pleasantly surprised...felt pretty good

others that ive tried and liked are precept laddie, srixon soft feel, and topflite gamer v2 (for similar price range)

I am a relative newby to the game and went through many different low end balls.  Not sure if it is more of my swing improving but I do seem to do better with Sxrion Q Star

The problem with buying a different golf ball is that the reviews on most are all over the place.

You get:

"adds 50yrds to my drive"

"slice like a pizza"

"I loose 15yrds from my drive"

"feels like a rock"

"softest ball I ever hit"

This on the same ball, that why you sometime just have to buy and try

I got a box of Pinnacle Gold balls and have not used them yet. I read online that they are great for reducing slice and are a great ball for my swing speed (between 90-100). is anyone familiar with these balls? Or pinnacle balls in general?

Can anyone recommend any other balls that are designed for that swing speed?

Which ones? Precision or Distance? Either one, I'd say that it's not a bad ball at all. I played Pinnacle's for a while and liked them. I'd say they feel somewhere along the lines of a Callaway Warbird or a Titlest DT Solo. Actually, a little softer than the DT; Those remind of the cheapest Top Flite's to be honest.

I'm currently using the Top Flite Gamers. They are similar to the pinnacle's off the tee, but I like them a lot more around the green. They're a mid-spin ball I suppose.

Golf Galaxy has a ball fitting service where you go in and spend $20 and hit a bunch of different balls. I have been researching and testing a lot of balls for about a year now, and I can tell you that what type of ball you play does make a difference. I can save you some time though and tell you that you are probably wasting your time playing tour level balls. You will notice they hold greens much better than non-urethane balls but spin like crazy off the tees and with the irons, and you will gain significant distance by staying away from them for now. I am a mid-capper and have settled on the Srixon Trispeed Tour - which has been discontinued, but is comparable to a NXT Tour.

I played yesterday with my new box of pinnecle gold balls. The box of 15 came with 3 sleeves of balls that said precision on the ball and 2 sleeves that said distance. I wasn't sure if the balls were the same or not. Either way, I hit the distance balls off the tee and when I used my driver and hybrids I was not slicing nearly as much. It was the first time I felt confident using my driver. New personal best too!

I went on using the Nike PD soft balls that I started this season with. My slice on my driver was out of control. I would like to think the balls added to my slice but, I did have an awful day on the course in general. I could have just been the way I was swinging today. After my last outing (which I played great), I wasn't concentrating too much on my swing, I just did my pre-shot routine and hit the ball.

I will be continuing to use these Pinnacle balls and will update soon. But I think for my next box of balls I will try Top Flite Gamers. Ive been told good things about them even before anthony responded here.
