Driver shaft change or play cheap balls?

I have come to notice that my ballooning drives can be tempered some what with cheaper lower spin golf balls like the Diablo or Pinnacle. The Prov1x did not seem to work as well either though it is touted as low spin. I know the swing I have is the cause of my issues but I am hitting fairways consistently and do not want to change it. The other option is a low torque and high bendpoint shaft. I am hitting a R7 limited 9.5 with the Matrix ozik 5.5 stiff shaft. I feel like I am loosing a bit of yardage with the ballooning and do not care for the Diablo around the green.

Any opinions or suggestion?

Get the right Shaft. Its cheap by comparrison to spend 30 minutes and reshafting on a launch monitor in the long run vs. trying to fix it with a myriad of ball choices. you can then start to dial in your swing being more consistant in your swing vs. trying to adjust your speed and power to match a shaft not meant for you and your swing profile.

I feel the same way but I think I will have to get a whole new driver. My swing has been pretty consistent which is why I feel like one or the other has to happen. I think I will go the shaft route but with a new driver head as well. I have read that it is difficult to keep the ball down with TM drivers. I doubt that this is a across the board thing.

I would agree also, get the right shaft for you, makes a huge difference.

I agree that shaft is very important when going after trajectory, but have you tried a ball that is in between the options you listed? I find the NXT Tour and Srixon Trispeed Tour have great mid-high trajectories, where the ProV1x doesn't get high enough for me. You will notice less grip from around the greens, but my game has improved a lot since ditching the ProV1x, which is what I thought I should be playing.

It's only difficult to keep the ball down with the non TP TM drivers because of the shaft. It's not good. If I remember from several years ago, the stiff in that shaft cpm'd out fairly soft for a stiff.

Try to make sure you're not flipping the driver - it's a relatively easy fix.

The R7 limited is a nice looking club head but you might try an aftermarket Fuji Blur - as it has a higher kick point and street price is about $149 plus install. Get the right weight and flex - winnah, winnah, chicken dinner.

But heck, I'd find an Adams Driver. They seem to have winners. And can normally be found inexpensively if you look around. The 9064 was popular with higher speed types and the price is right. I think the 9088 UL is a great driver (I play one with an aftermarket Fuji Blur - my first Adams Driver), and I've only heard good things about the new Fast 12.

I don't think I flip the driver, if I do it is intermittent and minor.. I believe I come in steep and the ball climbs steadily after impact which is why I am looking for a low spin driver as well. I average between 255 to 280 off the tee and the 250 area drives are when the hits are fairly high. The high ones start a little high and then climb.

I used to have this high spinning driver problem.  Thought I needed an 8.5 degree driver, but I still hit it high.  I was coming in steep and I had a flip in there.  Spent a couple seasons working on my pivot and slowly eliminating that flip.  It shallowed out my angle of attack too.  Now I can barely get that 8.5 degree driver off the ground.  My 10.5 degree goes way farther than that 8.5 did because of the swing change.

i'd be tempted to go get my swing looked at, if you know there is a problem there thatd make most sense, but i do hear what your saying about hitting them longish and straight. a shaft would give you a good constant, again and again everytime you hit the ball, if your not getting any luck try a ball change. a shaft could fix it, but i reckon trying a small swing fix for longer term success. do you have a video of your swing?
