Hey guys

Got a buddy driving down tonight, we are going to go out tonight and then hit the links tomorrow. Will be the first time I have golf this season in the northeast. I have been to the range twice, the first time was awful and the second time I felt really good. Anyone ever get a little nervous or anxious on the first round? I think it is because I havent played this buddy in a while and I have become a pretty decent golfer and just kind of want to show him I am solid. Any tips for just kind of relaxing and let the swing take over?

Think target once you address the ball. Sounds like a cliche but it works. Do all your mechanical checklist and whatnot during your practice swing, but once you've committed and addressed the ball clear your mind of everything except TARGET TARGET TARGET. This doesn't leave much room in your noggin for doubt and negative thoughts. Really works for me.

Now go kick your buddy's butt!

Great advice from EJ... work checklist on range practice your set-up... on the course TARGET! Just go alignment and hit it.

Also..

  • if your driver is wild on range, consider hitting 3W for day. Tee shots in short grass make it easier to play.
  • if a really good 4W shot will get you over the water, but you don't feel good about it, lay up with a 5i. Then, wedge it in

2 beers before you tee off.  Works every time.

Yeah that works too. I was going to suggest a big'ole fatty but now that Webb Simpson is frequenting the forum I didn't want to offend his sensibilities!

haha thanks for all the tips guys.

It all helped and I went out and shot a 41 front and then a great 36 back for a nice 77. Swing felt amazing and actually hit a couple crisp 3 iron shots which is usually a big struggle.

thanks again for all the help and I beat my buddy pretty handily which was just a nice cap off
