Hey guys I'm 16 years old and I currently play with stiff shafts. My average drive is around 305 my average for my 3 wood is 285. And for an iron my average 5 iron shot is around 205-210. My swing speed is 110mph give or take a few depending on the club. But I was just wondering if you all suggest I switch to extra stiff shafts vs my plain stiff shafts. And if so what are some good models for extra stiff shafts. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I definitely think this is the reasonable thing to do.  Personally, I liked, and bought, the KBS tours at my fitting.  I compared to project X and DG.

Edited: If you just change the shafts you may also have to do some work on the heads to retain the swingweight that you like.  Stiffer shafts are heavier.

You are a very short hitter for your age and your swing speed is pretty slow,

Until you are hitting the ball reasonable differences, I would stick with what you have.

But you are doing the right thing by asking people who've never seen you hit a ball what you should be using.

It's an excellent strategy.

Being a 16 year old off 3, there wouldn't be any local pros who know your game who could help you at all.

You are longer than Gary Woodland but short of Bubba Watson. Makes us want to help you out.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I have no idea if the OP is accurate or not but these stats do not say that he is longer than Gary Woodland. I have no clue about exactly what Gary tees off with but I bet it is driver around half the time at best. It is amazing how poor people are at understanding stats.

If Gary Woodland played my course he'd need a spotter because he'd be hitting drives to places I never dreamed of. Watch any of these long hitters on Shot Tracker for a few holes. When there's a true driving hole, the bombers are often 30-50 yards past their calculated average. I'd comment on the OP's data, but I don't want to be accused of being a hypocrite.

Is the tour now using every drive in the fairway to determine avg drive distance instead of just 2 predetermined holes from each round?  I remember they used to pick two holes on a course where they assumed most would hit driver and only measure distance on those holes.

Are you asking "What does All Drives mean?"

Did you look at the table? Bubba has 326 drives in 30 rounds.

30 x 2 < 326

Ah got it.  Didn't look at the table.  The tour used to only measure on two holes, now it's all drives in the fairway.  Makes sense now.

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
