You should try to keep your ass as far back as comfortable at impact..  You're really trying to muscle the ball getting far outside the plane right before impact.  Try not swinging so hard and try to get your right shoulder turning right under your chin at impact.

It should feel like your throwing a bowling ball

lemme kno how it goes

I was thinking of another feel you can think of...

at the start of your downswing imagine trying to hit the golf ball to right field...

You will produce SO much more power if you can swing on plane.. think of a hula hoop tilted on an incline.  Your backswing follows that path however your downswing sucks back in (to the left) throwing off the hula hoop plane line.....

Even though you are swinging harder the ball will not go as far when you swing to left-field like you are.. Post another vid when you can

hey guys, i posted a video of my swing a couple months ago. first of all this is just a video to test my new camera. it was a spur of the moment thing, and i didnt have shoes or anything.also i didnt want to hit a ball since i wasnt near the range or anything so im just taking practice swings.  anyway, just a test video and since i had the clubs out i figured "what the heck?". ive been playing for 4 years. my handicap is somewhere around a 15 or a little less, not completely sure. my aaverage score on a 9 hole course is around a 40. sometimes a little more, sometimes less. my best was 38, 2 over par. i usually hit a light fade. my hated miss is either a huge slice, or the random shot that starts left and stays there. thanks for watching.

Yep, the only problem I see with your swing is at the top, you push your hands forward so that your downswing turns into an over the top type approach to the ball.  Watch the video and concentrate on your move as soon as you start your downswing.  You need to keep that club on plane for more consistent ball striking.  Try keeping your right elbow tucked as opposed to just letting it fly away from your body on the downswing.

so should i try to pull my right elbow more in toward my stomach?

More towards your side yes. If, at the top, you concentrate on clearing your hips first before swinging your shoulders/arms it should help keep you from getting the "flying elbow".  You're basically "unwinding" your upper body before your lower body and it should be the opposite.  Make sense?

that makes sense, exept when you release your hips first doesnt that lead to a slice?

When you release your hips first it allows your left side to get out of the way so you can move your club through the "slot". If you start at the top using your shoulders/arms first your left side can't get out of the way so your club has nowhere to go but out and that produces the outside in swing plain...and that is what will cause a slice or a pull.

Yes if the hips don't go forward, by pressing into the ground with front foot, you'll pull or cut it.  The path would be rotated too far to the left.

ok thanks guys! i played 18 today and i did okay. i was hitting most of my iron shots straight, and powerful, and my drives had either the normal slight fade, a couple of times it went dead straight, but one or two times it hooked a bunch. anyway i shot an 88. i guess its good considering i havent played in 2 weeks or so. again thanks!

I've been Playing Golf for: 6 years My current handicap index or average score is: 47 (9 hole) My typical ball flight is: slice The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: slice/ pushing pulling [rule] Videos: Sorry for the first video, there were people in front and behind so I didn't want to hit two balls to stop play. This was my best drive of the day and probably the rest of the year. The ball had a little draw (which I didn't mean to happen) and went about 285 yards

One of the moderators moved the post to your swing thread, please don't start new threads, just continue to post here.

First video is private.

First thing I would clean up is to limit the amount the head rotates on the backswing. I would also turn both feet out more at address. Both of these pieces will help you rely less on "timing" and help you hit the ball more solid.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
