Hi folks,

I've recently had a Grip Master Stitchback leather grip put onto my driver and it feels amazing, however when I picked it up there was a sticky residue on the grip similar to the stuff left over when you've peeled a sticker off. I ignored it and this morning's range session pretty much pulled the residue off onto my glove (and deposited it on my white Iomic grip on the iron I was hitting) so it feels less sticky now however it's not gone completely.

I've tried a plain damp cloth to scrub the stuff off, however at the first sign of moisture it seems to come right back.

A few questions for those in the know:

1. Will this likely be an issue because the grip is new and therefore it'll go away as the club's played more.

2. Is there a way to get rid of the residue without compromising the leather? I'd normally use mineral spirits or acetone to remove that stuff but I'm worried it'll screw up the leather and/or start pulling the grip off the club.

3. Does anyone have any recommendations for the care of this type of leather grip?

Thanks all.

Sheesh, you guys and your fancy, schmancy grips.  JK.  You should only clean Grip Master leather grips with a damp towel.  Do not use soaps or solvents of any kind.  I'd wipe it down and just play it until it goes away.

I have Grip Master grips.  I think you are missing the point.  They are sticky, stickier then any other grip.  When the stickiness goes away wipe the grip down with a wet towel and dry it and it will be sticky again!

If you want them not to be sticky do not wipe them down and they will progressively get less sticky.  I like to play without a glove which is why I love those grips.

I have my fathers 2 iron from an old set, really old like 40 years, the leather grip is still sticky.

Ditch the white putter grip and bring a wet towel with you on the course.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
