Sometimes...not often....but sometimes, we need to show some self control.  What were you on the verge of purchasing, but decided to leave behind after really thinking about it.

For me it was a used R11 fairway wood.  It was 110 bucks and in really good condition.

A 4-pack of Guinness. I had the money but they just didn't have any.

A Sun Mountain Three 5 bag and a TaylorMade Monaco cart bag.  I got a second set of clubs and am looking for a bag for them and was all set on the Sun Mountain then changed my mind at the last minute... went to a different shop later in the day and almost got the TaylorMade bag but backed out again.  Still not sure what I'm gonna do but I'm sure I'll make up my mind soon.... then I'll be posting the the "What did you buy on your last trip to the Golf Store?" thread.

Titleist 910D3 and 910F.  Hard for me to swallow spending $400 on a driver, so I bought a genuine Nike VR Pro STR8-FIT Tour driver instead on eBay for $150.

Well, as long as you buy something....just gotta feed the beast, right?

Mizuno MP-59's.  I have liked them from the first time I saw them.  I promised myself I'd get them when I got down to a 15 as a reward, but unfortunately handicap is currently headed in wrong direction.

I found myself in an in-between situation. I tested a Callaway Razr Hawk at Dick's Sporting Goods last week. Really liked it. I didn't buy the club inside the store that day. A day later, I ordered a used Razr Hawk from Callaway Pre-Owned...

Therefore I sort of did & didn't? Hey, at least I waited a full day & saved myself more than $100!

Side note: the club arrived yesterday. It was described as "Good" condition on Callaway's site...but I'll be damned if it wasn't in perfect condition for a used driver!

I went to the driving range and putting green instead of the golf store. So, judging by the rationale exhibited in the above posts, I saved infinity dollars!!!

I'm curious what a 15.5 handicap needs a second set of clubs for

Maybe he has unlimited funds?  Maybe he has multiple homes?  Maybe he loves golf?!  :D

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
